We are not full timers but will be in the Monty for five months this year. What is an average price for parks that charge for electric. We are currently paying 13.5 cents per KWH. Is this high or the norm. Thanks,

Sounds in the ballpark of what Al and I paid last winter in the RGV, Texas. In that park, they said they billed you exactly what the rate was from the electric company to them.

The Escapee parks charge .08/kwh.

Here in Yuma, the going rate is 14-15 cents. We have recently heard there is a lawsuit between a park and the power company, supposedly the power company is the only one that can sell power. Have also heard of parks charging up to $5 to read the meter every month. Nice cash grab in some of the bigger parks.

We are currently paying .o6 per kwh here in Allyn Washingnton. My average bill during last winter was $30 per month and for propane was $56 per month total of $86 per month. In my old stick house I was paying 150-168 per month all electric. The park owner allows me to read my own meter and I then pay rent and show power usage on a spread sheet I give him each month. He's a nice guy and takes good cre of things. We're happy here, only one to 1 1/2 years more here!!

The electric rates at the park I'm at is .10cents a KW. So far my electric bill has not been over $50 a month. During the spring and summer my bill was between 30 and 40 dollars, but rose last month because of electric heaters. I guess i'll find out what it will be in the middle of the winter. I currently have 2 100lb tanks and 2 30lb tanks of propane, and haven't calculated how much I'm using until I start using more where I'll need to get them refilled. I haven't gone through a full tank yet on either.

Here in Tucson we are paying $.13 per kw, plus $6.50 per month to read the meter. This month was $67.40 for elect. plus $18.50 for a 30# propane tank. I have heard of some charging $.15 per kw.

Hi SMC: What are the 30# propane fillups going for in Yuma this year.We will be staying at Wellton and I noticed the park we are booked in charges $2.00 for reading the electric meters.

Good old "deregulation" here in Northern, TX the rates are all over the scale. We pay .15 yet 30 miles away they pay .08. Does anyone have information on how to check a meter for being acurate? Seems that the unit right next door pays way more than we do and lives about the same way.

Electric rates can vary from city to city and state to state the same as the fuel prices we pay to run our TVs vary. I've paid as high as .15 to as little as .08 per KW while some charged nothing. Some parks will add a few cents to what they are being charged by the electric company some will sell it to you at cost. In some parks you actually pay directly to the elecric company at the current going rate. The park we winter in has a combination. Some pay directly to the power company while others pay the CG office. In our case we pay the CG office and actually get a penny off the electric company rates. I have never been in any park that charged to read the meter.

Thanks for all the great replies. Being from Washington State we are use to 4.5 for the stick house, so it was somewhat of a shock. Of course, fuel prices for the truck are 60-70 cents cheaper in Texas, so that helps even it out. Haven't priced propane here at the campground or at another retailer. Thanks again

Looking at my electric bill for last month for a business rate and a stick house rate, we are paying from $.11 to $.13 per KWH from Pedernales Electric. The $.11 is our business rate where we use more than the stick house. We live near Austin Texas.

The meter reading charge seems to be new this year. Anywhere from $2 to $5. In some of the bigger parks, it is a nice little profit. We talked to one of the guys who reads the meters at another park, and he certainly is not seeing any of it.

Just finished checking several Central FL CGs for their elect rates. We are currently paying $.10. Rates were $.10-$.13.

We pay .08, at this campground (Walnut Grove RV, KC KS) we are metered but pay business rate so it's .03 cheaper. We average 50 - 70$ per month, to many computers hehe.

I read my meter at the stick house, I do not find the process very difficult. I find it strange that they can charge you to read the meter when most of the time the folks that run the parks ride around on golf carts with nothing to do. I try to shut the power down to all my electronics when not in use. I purchased a plug in meter which will show how much power things in the house use. I had a freezer in the basement of the stick house that was purchased when we got married. It was a power hog. I now have a new smaller unit. I also put this meter on the power strip for the computer, I was shocked, it used as much power as the old freezer. I now shut all my electronic gadgets off when not in use and cut the power to them. I was shocked at how much power all those little lights, the led read outs use, even the tv will use power when it is off, but the power is stll running to the unit.

I guess I should unplug a television and statellite receiver I still have plugged up the basement storage of my unit. Actually, I totally forgot! It might save me a few bucks a month. I've heard about electonics etc still drawing electrical current, but never thought too much about it. Thanks for the post!

I am confused, I thought the electric was included in the day rate for the space. Could someone please explain the CG rates to me. I was advised to get electric heaters as the parks do not charge extra for electric. Sory, I am new at this....

In some campgrounds, electric is included. A lot of these are cg's that you only stay for a short time. Here in Arizona, most long term campgrounds charge extra for eletricity. When booking, always ask if they charge extra for electricity. We have even seen campgrounds that charge an extra $1 per night if you use an electric heater, though I doubt if too many claim that they are.
