Pictures of the Front Compartment....

This is the travel mode....

Right side...

Left side...

It may look cluttered but I know where everything is. I have a small stool I can sit on and have access to everyting I need.

Glenn,
Have you checked your hitch weight lately?
It must be up a pound or two with all the plastic bottles and etc..

Sue ... I quickly learned that Rubbermaid/Sterlite and their baskets/bins are an RVers best friend. I can't imagine trying to keep things even relatively neat and organized without containers. I hate wasted space and a trip down the Rubbermaid/Sterlite aisle at our neighborhood Wally World/Target usually provides me with just what I need to make the best use of the space we have.

I love an organizing challenge and living in a Montana provides me with a never-ending challenge of getting everything put away in a logical and convenient location.

Vicki,
I also have most of my basement in rubbermaid bins w/ lids. The problem I find is when I finally get everything in its place and put away, when the time comes I cant remember where I put it! LOL!!

I so agree with the Rubbermaid/Sterlite tubs. We even have empty ones to take up blank space so things don't move. I'm sure when we start full timing they will be filled.
Dave, get the clear ones and then you can see what is in them. You are much to young for CRS!
I'm kind of a nut when it comes to a place for everything and everything in its place. However I live with a person that is just the opposite so it is a constant job to keep putting things back. Gives me something to do! I think when we start FT I will make a inventory list and where everything is - much like I do when we go on a cruise and have several suitcases. I do a spreadsheet and color code the different cases. That way I can make sure we have everything and can find it easily.

Thanks to Ozz for giving me the idea to use the storage under the bed . I did this little job this morning. I cut the trap door 20" and I only used the piano hinges because I had them. Any hinge will do. If you use the same method to lock the trap door in the up position , you need to notch the frame like I did. I am off work this week so I am doing a few mods on the Monty. I am a little scruffy in the pic,I haven't shaved yet.

A good place to store plastic garbage bags is in the bottom of the garbage can UNDER the bag you are using. I just toss the roll of bags in the can and then they are handy when I empty the trash and need a new one.

Thanks Parrothead and Dave, Here is one more thing I did today. I am going to paint the shelf and the basement door later. Everything just lifts out, nothing is attached to the Montana.

The shelf centre support is bevelled back at the front so both cranks can sit in there. I use barrell bolts on the door at the top and aluminum channel clips on the bottom to secure this door and I can pile stuff up and not worry about it falling against the Montana door. I am doing this on both sides. The barrell bolts go into a hole in the aluminum frame. I drilled these holes slightly larger than the bolt. I really had that basement packed my last trip and I had bungys on the stuff to keep it in. This will work better. I used lightweight 1/2" birch plywood.
It is real quick and easy to lift the doors in and out. The opening is 42 inches wide and my doors are 48" wide so you have 1 1/2" overlap on each outside frame.

Don, nice job on both. I'm going to do at least the under bed storage.

For those who are familiar with the bedframe, is it possible to cut out a portion of the foot end of the bed frame and hinge it to provide access to that bottom storage without raising the bed and anything stored on the plywood? Or would that compromise the strength? Ours is buried under space bags at the moment and we don't yet have the new one to see how it is built. Thanks.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve, I am pretty sure that your idea is possible and I was thinking along those lines as well.

Steve I think your idea is a good one. Since the plywood is resting on the sides which are longer I don't see how this would comprise the strength. You might need a brace across the end on the bottom of the plywood.
