Glad It Wasn't Us

Heading north on 101 this afternoon and went through a small town (either Garberville or Myers Flat, CA). Speed limit ended up dropping to 25mph in a congested area around a curve. I was stopped at a light and looked in my mirror and here comes two TV's pulling 25-28' Travel trailers around the curve. They were probably going 40-45mph so I was keeping an eye on them to make sure they weren't going to space out and slam into the back of me. When they were still a block behind me a female in a car pulled out and slammed into the front TV! A case of two wrongs making a big wrong. Sure would have ruined our day.

We all take chances being on the road. I feel being diligent, listening and learning about our rigs is the only way to make ourselves safe. Going a little slower and taking time can and will make a difference. Speed and not paying full and complete attention are a dangerous combination. Last try to expect the unexpected everyday. Not preaching just giving my opinion. Fluffy on your lap, texting, reaching for the glove box while driving, all accidents waiting to happen! See it everyday...

This is always my biggest fear when traveling and have had several close calls. That's why I pull at 60 or less and why we added disk brakes. Still folks seem to like to use my necessary stopping distance as their preferred driving area.

I drive the RV just like I drive when I am on my bike. Over the many many years of motorcycling you learn to expect people to pull out in front of you, to cut you off, to jump on their brakes etc It amazes me still when I see either a bike or an RV coming to an intersection at speed and never slow down much less toe the brake, it amazes me watching bikes and RV's both tailgate??? I still run down that hwy at the speed limit and even up to 70 mph, but that is on hwys with little traffic as long as I can maintain a very long stopping distance between vehicles. Always expect people to do stupid stuff. I mean I drove fire trucks, big red trucks with a bunch of flashing lights and siren, and people still pulled out in front of me??? That's why I laugh at those guys who wear the orange or lime vests on bikes and say now they can see me???? Yeah right keep on thinking that and sooner or later you'll hit the side of a car. Same with RV's, they won't see you. Oh and don't forget there is the new generation, the me first, it's all about me, and me is the only one the matters or they will look our for me, or me don't care. There are so many now days that will pull out in front of you and will tell you to hit your brakes they don't care. They think the rules do not apply to them that's why they will run a red light, no not orange, a red light. And have you noticed how many people now run with their high beams on, they don't care if you are blinded by them as long as they can see better with them on .......Ok I'm done now lol lol

This is the season of idiots on the road where I live. Just after his school graduation all the new drivers are out on the roads. They do some crazy things when driving alone and, when showing off for their friends/passengers.

My wife is a great co-pilot (usually). She's very observant and has saved us from accidents several times over the years. I have done some stupid things myself when driving, and she let's me know about it.

I could travel by car and run 600 miles in a day and not think anything about it. When we started traveling by motorcycle we would stay between 300 and 350 a day. The HD Ultra Classic had all the bell/whistles but I was still worn out at the end of the day. Now with the Monte if I do 350 miles a day that is all I want. If you are driving defensively and paying attention all day long these things will wear you out.
