6 Point Leveling system

Sure this has been asked before. My new Montana i pick up this Friday, has the auto 6 point leveling system. Will I ever need to put "leaving blocks" under each foot on uneven ground or gravel? Hope that's not too dumb a question! Thanks to all who respond!

We, too, just got a new rig and it has the leveling system on it. We've only used it 3 or 4 times so we don't have much experience yet. My thought is that we will seldom have to place any leveling blocks under the foot of any of the pads..... But having said that we will definitely take some blocks with us. There very well may be some times when we may need them. There is a real possibility that in very warm weather and when parking on asphalt we may need to have a block to help spread out the load. In the few times we have used the system we have had no need for any additional blocking and I suspect that will be the norm. Like Dennis said, not so much for leveling, but you may need load distribution pads for some ground conditions. If it is muddy and soft for example, you might need to put down a pad to keep it from sinking in.

We carry 8" blocks we somtimes put under the front jacks if the angle is real severe. We have set up over 70 times plus when we park in our storage lot, we did use the blocks a Quartzsite this year.
Most the time in a RV Park they are not needed. We do use the plastic pads under the front jacks because they are on an angle and slide out when leveling. I feel it is easier for them to slide on the plastic than concrete or gravel.

If you find yourself on a really off level site you may be forced into one of three options: 1) Try to get a more level site 2)use some blocks on the low side as there is only so much stroke in those jacks, or 3) Find another CG. Last summer we were on a site (at check-in we were told "Very Level". Well we ended up with some blocks on the low side and those wheels about 4 inches off the ground. Our friends we were with couldn't quite get their MH leveled. So it can happen. We do use the Orange pads from CW and put them under all jacks, especially if on grass.

Since the topic is on levelers-does anyone know how much weight the levelers add to the rig?I am thinking about adding same but am concerned about weight.

RichR, additional weight added by the levelers, if any, would be minor. Rest assured the benefits received will far outweigh any additional weight. Will never agin be without auto levelers!

Thanks everyone my mind has been made easy! I am one of those guys who over thinks everything. I get in "thought circles" and need imput! Again thanks... My TT set up became a ritual and now I must put away my trusty Level,Drill and now my blocks? A man needs blocks! Lol

I use large plastic pads under mine.

We carry the orange plastic pads along with 6 x 6 blocks. Why? Because we have had situations where we needed to level side to side over the limits of the system and we have been on sand, wet grass and soft dirt.

Like helmick, we have Level-Up'ed many, many times even though we had ours retrofitted on our 2009 Big Sky. Even when we Wal-dock, we manually level while still hooked up to the truck (I keep an eye on the hitch).

I don't always use chocks now, but when I am uncertain, I put them down and leave them. When I do this I do a manual retraction so I can watch how the tires re-settle with the chocks.

As others have stated. And the stroke, as mhs4771 stated is probably the more apt to cause a problem. My old Monty did not have the auto leveling system but there were times when one of the front jacks would have a block or two under it. And in my mind, as those jacks extend to their limit they do not have as much shear strength as when they are not fully extended. (think iron tube in an iron tube).

In some systems there is an out-of-stroke sensor and I don't know if Keystone added that feature, but if one jack extends further than the other the system will stop and indicate and "out-of-stroke" on the panel. If that happens, I would wager that a block under the low side jacks would take care of the problem. I still carry them - in case.

Another two forms of jack pad are 3/4" by 12" treated plywood, slightly heavier than the plastic pads, but cheaper, and cutting boards. Just don't tell momma that you are using her cutting boards, and wash them real well before putting them back in the drawer. Cutting boards can be picked up just about anywhere.

As i work camp in a lot of states som eof them require that you put something under the feet at not to damage there parking pads. so you may want to take some plastic pads with you.

Does anyone have a price for after-market 6-point leveling system? Are there any installers in the NW?
I see that there a couple of systems - is one better that the other?

Hi Don,

This is the last info I have below from Lippert about installation locations. I have read that having six points of contact versus four is better on the frame. Don't know about actual cost of the upfit, others can chime in on that. Good luck.
