Pac Brake Compressor

I have a Pac Brake Exhaust Brake installed on my CTD and have had to replace the compressor twice in the last 3 yr's. I have checked for air leaks and found none. The techs at Pac Brake say this is not an uncommon replacement interval. Has anyone else had to replace the compressor this often? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have BD Exhaust Brake, installed Oct 2009. No problems what so ever.

Richard66,

I've had the Pacbrake exhaust brake and air bags since the spring of 2009. So far no problems at all. In my discussions with the guys in Vancouver, they told me the compressor has a reed type check valve that is designed to leak a bit so that it will lose pressure when you shut off the vehicle so when the air recharges, it causes the brake valve to cycle. The theory is that if the valve gets exercised regularly, then it won't seize up on you.

If Pacbrake compressors are causing a problem, you may be able to buy a satisfactory different brand and install it instead.

Good Luck,

Rob

We've had our Pacbrake for about 3 years and never have had a problem with the compressor or brakes.

I find it hard to believe that is a regular replacement cycle unless the vehicle is seeing a lot of miles/use (like in a commercial application).

I have a Banks setup installed 2 years ago and not a single problem.

Richard66,

Looks like I spoke too soon. While travelling the mountains of northern California yesterday, my compressor died. Out of warranty and $255 for a new one.

Bummer!!
