2008 Ford PSD!

Last night I saw the 2008 Ford F-450 dually prototype! Wow. The 6.4L PSD is very quiet (I was impressed), turns out 350hp w/650 ft/lbs f torque, and has a 5th wheel towing papacity of 24,500#! Payload is advertised as 6,120#. It was also equipped w/a tailgate pull out step for getting into the bed. CD player is also MP3 compatible. Nav sysyem and DVD player otions, too. Looked like a winner for towers! Something to put on your future wish list?!!!

I hear you loud and clear Chris, it's already on my wish list. I just hope I can hold out long enough to get one.

I have been waiting with baited breath to hear from the dealer as to when one can be ordered. Its going to be the Lariat F250 long bed for me, it should pull my new Big Sky just fine.

Bill. My dealer says they'll be in high demand, and I agree. Designed for towing, especially 5th wheels. Still being toured as a prototype (F450 pulling demo trailer w/engines and cutaways). Engine will be available in other PSDs (250 and 350) I think. Very impressive based on my brief visit/tour.

Sounds great but how much blood will you have to sell to buy one. My 05 King Ranch was $50+ and I expect it to last a while. Anxious to see the list price.

Wow, I need one of you guys to buy that thing, put 75,000 to 100,000 miles on it to break it in, and then sell it to me for about 1/2 what you paid for it.

Good one Stiles....hehehe Shhhhh Can you put me on the list for the next one after you get yours! argargarg Oh well maybe I can pick a 20 tractor TV like Bob shows in his signature, after all the rims are pretty close to matching my Monty's. Not to mention I could wash and wax it every morning in an hour.

I am a true blue Ford man and I will be waiting a little while to see how all the new electronics pan out with the new engine. Maybe a '09 in my future. But after seeing how the 6.0 did out of the gate in sales I will wait a year or so before buying any of the new diesel's from the big three. Seems everyone is in a hurry to get to the market and doesn't do enough research before hand.

I do like the numbers for the F450 though. Impressive!

We are watching the 08 Diesel motor and trucks closely in terms of pricing, and fuel cost.. Our 05V-10 is pulling with the best of them..MPG is abysmal at 8.6 MPg 717 miles into this trip but the Diesel MPG pulling the same load is not much better. The best we have seen so far is a .42 cent diff between Gas/Diesel (Pilot) I am actually impressed with the pulling power of the V-10..tow command engaged we hold the speed limit up and down these MO hills. The 450 will be way out of our price range and do not need that much truck to pull the 3400..F-350....hummm.

I bleed Ford Blue. Love the brand, learned to drive on a 55 Ford pickup and have bought 8 brand spanking new Ford pickups in the last 30 years. I hope for Ford that the new 6.4 PSD is a winner and will bring back Ford's reputation in the diesel segment. My 04 sick.0 was a lemon like many , many others and Ford has openly admitted the sick O's high warranty costs.
Many digruntled sick 0 owners went to Cummins or Duramax for a lemon cure. I stuck with Ford and went gas V10. So far , so good and I sincerely hope that all MOC members that own a 6.0 PSD have one of the good ones.

The twin turbo design has not worked out very good for the big engines in semi trucks. Cat has tried this and doesn't get near the fuel milage that they advertise. To me it's just more things to go wrong. I like the Ford trucks and have owned them in the past but they are on the wait and see list at my house. Al

Lots of information here

http://media.ford.com/products/press...421&make_id=92

Ford held off bringing out this engine to do much more testing according to this above article. It will be interesting to see how the new engine does.

We got one of the last 7.3 PSDs in our 2003 F250. I just didn't want to be a "guinea pig" for the 6.0. Looks like I did the right thing. I like what I see in the F450, but will give Ford a little while to work out the kinks before I would consider the new engine. I too bleed Ford Blue, but with only 88,000 mile on this '03, I think I'll be OK for a while. Anyway, the increased payload and braking capabilities on the F450 should be a big winner for Ford if they have done their homework on the new engine. Time will tell.

I've used up all of my Christmas coupons for a while, so no -08 for me. Guess I'll have to wait to see what happens down the line. Hopefully by the time I'm ready the engine will be proved out and they will have put the headlights back up on top where they belong!

I don't understand why when the big three come out with a new anything (car, truck, engine, transmission, etc) we all hold our breath waiting to see if it will be a good change or a lemon change. Unfortunately, a great deal of the time it turns out to have problems at best, or just a lemon at worst. Honda/Toyota come out with a new product and that year it's the car or truck of the year. I'll never buy anything new from the big three, but have had excellent luck with new products from Honda. Go figure.

We'll be in the market this summer when we're closing in on the end of our engine warranty at 100k miles. I like what I'm seeing about the new Fords but will be shy about a first year engine unless the reports are very good. I'll be looking at all makes. I like that new F450 but it appears it will only be a dually, which won't fit with our lifestyle so we'll be looking at a SRW F350 or one of the 3500 SRW's from other makes.

Steve et al, I started this thread, and own a 2004 F250 6.0 PSD. The 450 was what I saw, but early in 2007, the 6.4L motor may also be available in 250s and 350s. 450 is a bit of overkill for Monty owners, but nice. Ford claims to have over 10M miles of testing on this new engine, on 600 motors in all conditions (I'm reading their promo). Ozz was concerned about the 2-turbo (sequential) system. My son says it improves low RPM spool-up/response?! MHO. Look forward to early buyer reviews!!!
