Mor/ryde or travel air

Good morning I have 2007 3075 with mor/ryde sup& mor/ryde pin box would they be any advatage to swap pin box to a travel air box

bob, we just switched off from the stock Lippert box to the MOR/RYDE pin box. Big difference in pulling but I don't know how much it will change from the MOR/RYDE. Now I know the people with the travel air will say there is a big difference also but did they switch from a Lippert or a MOR/RYDE to the travel air box. I would think if my 5er came with a MOR/RYDE that I couldn't justify the cost for the ride. Now I'm sure this will open a can of worms!

Mor ryde, is reported to be fab for quieting the chucking or porpoising action.

Trail-air is reportedly better for bouncing and protecting the coach from possible frame damage.

Trail-air is marketing testing a combo unit, watch for announcements near the end of 06. At least that is what they told us when we were in the plant in Goshen after the Fall Rally.

But, for now, I guess it would depend on which movement bothers you the most, chucking or bounce.

I guess not many of us have had the luxury of comparing them. Both seem to do something, but whether that works in your situation is a personal thing. Each combination of truck, trailer, and road works a little differently. I have heard good and bad reports about both. I don't think either all "right", or all "wrong"

As Carol said, Trailair are coming out with a new version that is supposed to combine some of the characteristics of each, but whether that is better of not, remains to be seen.

Both companies offer to take their unit back if it does not work out for you, so you could give it a try.

Carol is right about the Mor-Ryde getting rid of chucking. We had one put on at the Rally and boy what a diff. it made.

Trail air also told us there were certain years of trucks, think they were short bed trucks, that just do not work well with their current air pin. They said for those years, makes, models, etc, that for 10 they put on, 8 come back. Sorry, I do not remember the specific data on the years, etc. They will refund $$ in full, etc, their statement was, we don't want Trailair on your unit if you don't like it, that is nothing but poor advertisement.

We have no connection to Trailair, other than we have installed their new equaflex system. Have only pulled a short distance with it, but so far, so good. Cept that Al had to order NEW size Rotochocks, again! SIGH

Anyway, nothing to gain or lose for us, just reporting some info that was passed on to us, in hopes that it will help you make a decision.

I too have been checking into both types (I have the standard hitch and pinbox). The Mor/ryde promotes horizontal motion of up to 3" but only 1" vertical. The Trailride obviously offers vertical motion but theoritically shouldn't have any horizontal motion. However I did read an artical that horizontal motion is experienced by the Trail-Air pin box rolling forward and back on the hitch because of he hitch swivel point. Not sure if that is enough to serve the chucking and porpoising action like Mor/Ryde or not - would need input from someone that owns a Trail-Air pin box.

Also wondered if a mor/ryde or glide ride pin box could be combined with an airbox hitch system, compensating for both horizontal motion through the pin box and vertical motion through the hitch itself. Not sure if anyone has tried, but it might feel like the Monty was on the end of a bungee cord .

I think I'll wait for spring to see what Trail-Air comes up with.

Look a Valley Air Revolution like Ozz has, they make a retro that fits right into your existing rails and use your head, looks pretty cool. I just don't have 1400 bucks currently laying around or I would have one.

That was the one I was looking at - I saw Ozz's picture and it looked like a good solution for an existing hitch. Just not sure how wise it is to have both an airbox hitch combined with a motion dampening pin box such as glide ride or mor-ryde.

Anybody tried?

I saw a new Excel 5vr in one of the Santa Fe RV parks where we were staying. Apparently the Excels are now coming with the Glide Ride pinbox. The TV was a Chevy 4500 all fancied up, and which had an air ride hitch - don't now remember what the brand name was.

Anyway, the owner said the combination created a towing ride better than he had ever had with any other combination - no up/down and no front to back chugging.

It was a real nice set up - $110K trailer, and a $70K TV.

Bob, rather than swap your pin box, it might be worth looking into the Valley Air Revolution air box Broome discusses for your hitch. It would give you the advantage of both motion dampers.
