Slider control switch panel problems

Checked the site and found a 2006 thread about this that does not quite cover the issues on my 2008 3400RL. I first noticed that the main ext/ret switch was not working, but the remote worked when I turned on that switch (red light came on).

Found the old post and checked all the switches and turned them to full stop - no change.

Then noticed that the red light for the remote no longer comes on but the remote unit still works fine.

Any suggestions?

Does this situation suggest that something systemic is failing?

Back in those days not only could you have the issue of turning the light on with the remote and then not being able to turn it off with the switch, but there were also problems occasionally with the reciever for the remote. Rather than deal with it we just took the batteries out of the remote and never used it, but gave it to the dealer when we traded it in.

Are you saying the remote works and the switches don't? That is a known problem. Read this thread for help.

Beautiful! Thank you so much. It is so cool when historical knowledge comes in to play. I really appreciate this.

BTW, as a telecom tech I did my troubleshooting with a multimeter all through the system and the only thing I could come up with was either the controller was bad or there was no return ground (no potential between 12vdc and ground).

Off to read the post and fix the problem!

Cheers.

One new problem discovered...the first step I took was to follow the advice to run the manual ground to chassis. Easy. But when i took off the existing chassis ground, I got a pretty good spark, indicating power short to ground, and I suspect the rocker control switch. Now, I know how to troubleshoot this, but wondering if anyone has seen this before and whether or not it's a known issue with a known fix. Otherwise, I am going to start disconnecting wires tonight and wearing out my multimeter!
