Canada. What do we need to know?
We're kicking around ideas for getting from here (Kansas City) to Staunton, VA, via Niagara Falls and possibly Gettysburg. We're thinking we might like to go into Wisconsin, then across Canada to Niagara Falls. Or maybe we'd go to Detroit or Saul St. Marie and then over to N.F. since we'd like to visit the Montana factory on this trip.
I'd appreciate any info on what I need to know or pointers to info I can get to. Things like do I need to exchange dollars before entering or can I get by with just dollars and a Visa for this short (relatively) time and distance?
What can I not take into Canada or back into the U.S.?
I read, in this forum I think, about some toll roads that require a special express payment card or something like that and to traverse the road without it results in a big penalty. Did I remember that right? How do I recognize those roads on the map? I bought a Canada roadmap today and see a road marked "QEW". Is that one of those roads? I'm not finding "QEW" in a legend anywhere.
Anything at all that might be helpful for us to know or be aware of. Some day we hope to really "tour" Canada. This trip would be more of a foray into Canada.
Thanks.
