Harley Haulin'

Anyone got advice on how my half can stick his Harley (sportster) on the rig when we get going? He wants to keep it, and we have seen some rather nice platforms that will mount on the reciever hitch on the back of the montyh. What say you all?

If you put a hitch on the back of the monty you will void the warranty, do a search on receiver hitch and see what you find. People have done it but I think a motorcycle might be quite heavy.

We, too, also want to haul our Suzuki Intruder 1500 on the back of our new 3650RK. You can look at www.motorcyclecarriers.com , and there are a host of other carriers on the market. Do a google search for "motorcycle carriers" and you find lots of them.
Havn't researched the voided warranty thing (which warranty does it void?), but I have seen M's come from the factory with a Reese hitch already installed on them. Why would they bother to install that if it would knowingly void any warranties??

As far as I know a hitch on the rear is a dealer installed item not blessed by Keystone. When my unit was back at the factory I had inquired about one and they said they don't put them on.

Maybe members who attend the Factory tour during the rally should ask and press the issue. All I want is to hang a bike rack.

You will not see a Montana from the factory with a hitch receiver on the back end. Their contention is (to my understanding) that it weighs down the back end, putting stresses on the skin of the unit that it was not manufactured to endour. If you end with with stress cracks because you have loaded a big bike or generator or some other gear on the back end of your unit, they do cover those stress cracks under warranty.

Again, that is our understanding.

Hardly surprising that Keystone doesn't support this as a trailer behind a trailer wouldn't be safe. Their assumption must be that a receiver hitch is for towing as 99.99% are installed for. Probably is worth a conversation with Keystone regarding these for use only with receiver adapters...

The thing we are looking at would be a platform.. altohough I do like the look of that "swivel wheel" thing... Near as I can estimate. the bike weighs between 3 and 500 #. When you all are at the rally and go to the factory.. please do find this out!!!!

Theirs a guy in Virgina that sells and installs hitches.Like others have said Keystone will void the warrenty. But if you want to haul your bike-you`ll get the risk.Send me a e-mail and I`ll send you some pics of a great looking set-up.

Also I personlly have talked to a Montana owner that hauls a Gold wing on his Montana.he didn`t care about the voided warrenty.Hes been hauling it for 3 years now with no problems to frame or any thing.

It all depends if you want to risk it-But it has and is being done as I type-with favorable results.
