I love my MorRide steps. The only thing I didn’t like was I bought a decorative screen saver and you can’t close the screen with this on and the fold up steps. I had to purchase the Lippert screen saver that goes with the fold in steps. So I have a brand new beautiful screen door saver that I can’t return now so if anyone is looking for one hit me up.

They're not cheap somewhere in the neighborhood of five to six hundred bucks

I'm with you on this. I much prefer the steps that fold out.

We have the old fashion fold up steps that could be more stable. But for the reasons mentioned - uneven ground, opening in truck stops/parking lots we don't want them. But the biggest drawback for us is where we back it into storage, we would not be able to open our slides on the driver's side if we parked far enough away from the RV on the passenger side to open the steps. And then we would be parked too close to the RV on the dreiver's side for them to open their steps. I often wondered why MorRide or Lippert don't modify those long things by cutting the side legs in half and hinging them on the back side. That way they could colapse in half to open or close. If they were open, to close them you would pull out and up on the center of the step and the bottom half would fold back under the top half, flip it up into the RV and then unflod the bottom half up to fit behin the door. Could even have a spring loaded pin to keep the 2 sectrions extended when out or in.

Steps
Get the Glowstep Revolution by Torklift. Best steps on the market. Folding and aluminum. Bolt right in
Could never understand the steps in the doorway. All that dirt inside. You will not be sorry if you get the Revolution steps.

We have MoRryde and love the stability. I also added the handrail to add to the use of these. For someone that has health problems, the drawbacks mentioned are worth it, at least for us.

We’re definitely a MorRyde Step fan. The provide great stability and a hand rail top to bottom to assist my wife getting in. We lay out a carpet that extends under the steps to help solve the dirt issue. But with most campsites your going to track in some dirt. I have had to use some wood blocks to level the landing area for the steps. The Glowsteps look interesting if the had a stable hand rail since the one on the side of the Montana doesn’t extend out to the first step.

the golden step also has a full-length handrail. It attaches at the trailer to the bottom step and to the slide out

I love them for the stability once set up ... but you are not alone:
I HATE them for all 5 reasons you mentioned, except, I do not have a garage to park my 5th wheel trailer in.
I had a road side emergency last summer. I could not get inside the RV because the steps hit against a guardrail! Luckily, I was able to reach inside and grab what I needed to prevent a total disaster.

I did had an emergency entry into our Montana when I had to stop adjacent a 4’ fence. I was able to open the door but the stairs had to be lowered on to the fence. Then I was able to climb the fence and and walk across the stairs to enter the fifth wheel. Not sure what my plan would have been if I hadn’t been able to open the door. But then that’s true for any steps you have. They are impossible to get in if you can’t open the door With out damaging your home. I guess possibly going in through our toy hauler space into the bedroom with a little damage

Wow - not only a really straightforward design, but also a very well-documented design and execution. Thanks for the excellent photos and documentation.

Do not have lift assist on either set of step.
Don't really follow you on the rivot to pin issue.

I put them in when I had old style - glad they come out. Most problems have work arounds.
