Will do. They're made I'm just waiting for the truck bed liner that I spray them with to dry so I can install them.

Here y'all go. Got up this morning took some measurements went to Lowe's got some parts and this is the result. I have done hundreds and hundreds of mods to several campers I've owned and this is by far the best

Thanks for posting this question Leftie Canuk. I can now open either slam latch baggage door believe it or not with one pinky anywhere along the rail!!!!!!

Finally figured it out.

Materials

1- 6 foot lenth of 3/4x3/4" aluminum tube
4- 3/4x3/4" end plugs
4- 2 1/2" 5/16 stainless bolts with nuts and washers
4- 1" long spacers (I used bronze bushings)
Finish of your choice (I used rustolium truck bed liner)

Pretty simple, 2 hours from the time I left for lowes until done and installed

You could also go this route. My handles are 28" center to center. Simple bolt on, done.

Thought about using round. You have to shape the spacer to the round bar and whatever you bolted on with will not sit nicely on the round stock.

No matter what you use to link the latches together you will be amazed at how little effort it takes to open the door afterwards.

I suppose I could have used EMT conduit I have laying around

What would be slick is to connect the two via a light cable, like a bicycle brake cable, ran from one handle to the other on the compartment side of the door. Not visible from the outside.

I said the same thing to the wife about the towel rack. Lol
Never really investigated doing it on the inside I'm sure that would be way more complicated.
Even if you could do that you would still have to grasp one of the two handles.
I can gently pull anywhere on that bar with my pinky and the door will open.
I was actually amazed and how easy it was the first time I opened it

To shape it is really no problem - just adds a little time to drag out a die grinderand make a few slivers.

The problems with EMT is the weight and the zinc coating that needs to be well cleaned and possibly scuffed to provide 'tooth' for the paint. But, 1/2 or 3/4 inch is for sure in my metals pile ....

As far as SS fasteners - got pounds of them left over from a couple ground up car builds (but probably none the right lengths)

The weight, your camper and or truck could care less, much less the door. That spray on truck bed liner will stick to anything. I re did a totally rusty pull behind mower cart years ago. Coated it with several coat of rust reformer and several coats of bed liner, and to this day it is still holding up after 100,s of loads of mulch/ gravel /stone. etc.

Shaping the spacers, probably no big deal, and I suppose you don't need ss bolts if it is going to be painted anyway.

Probably would have cost me nothing if I had used what I had on hand.

Weight is a relative term. To me square looks heavy while round doesn't, All in personal perception.

Paint - I like a bar-b-que paint as it's smooth and will withstand lots of use.

This just my thinking and absolutely is not a knock on your great mod which I thank you for being the guinea pig

I'm not certain but I think this mod may catch on.
There's an infinite number of ways it could be done using many different types of materials be it round or Square.
I think it would look cool using like a 3/4 inch clear acrylic rod.
I did another test yesterday with a 30 pack of cold adult beverages in each hand I can open the door with one foot. Lol

While I agree with the inconvenience, I have put up with so many other issues re the compartment doors, (screws coming out of the cheap board, etc) I have learned to open the doors before having my hands full...most of the time.

Something as simple as an online questionnaire or survey and follow through to design changes would improve their product.

Any ideas, or pictures if something was modified, will be greatly received.
I hate them for all the obvious reasons when my hands, or one of them, is full. But I really despise them when the guy next door or two or three trailers over is opening and slamming them when I am trying to sleep during the night.

I try to remember to open them before I get whatever needs to go inside. That works pretty well, if I remember and it is not raining and the bugs are not too thick or the wind is not blowing real hard. Of course if I need something out I have to go empty my hands before I can open the door. Even the little moron was smarter than that.

Solved that problem, but now mine won't stay open since it uses magnets and sits flat against the sidewall.
