Fuse

Hi there,
I managed to short circuit my trailers 7 pin harness. Can’t seem to find a blown fuse! Any ideas?

Hi

No the truck wasn’t hooked up so it is on the trailer side!

Ken,

Please give us more info. What is not working? How did you short circuit the harness.

Hi

I used a “hack “ to light up the clearance lights on the rig!

Hook up the connector to your truck.

Do all the lights work, brake lights, running lights and tail lights? Do the electric brakes work? With the truck running you can also check to see if you are getting charging current from the truck.

What is not working after the short circuit?

Hi

Clearance lights work when hooked to truck. They don’t work when I use the “hack” by crossing the 2 top pins.

Hi
Cross the top two pins in the 7 pin connector to complete the circuit and the clearance lights come on using the batteries in the trailer.

This should work fine. Be sure you have a battery in the RV. In the diagram below, jump the plug at pins #3 and #4 using a 15 amp blade fuse bent to fit (or a 12V flasher relay if you want to drive neighbors nuts - right Jack?).

Before any other answers can be guessed at, you need to identify what year and model rig you have.

I’m thinking he toasted the 40 breaker on the wall behind the batteries.

I don't see how he could do that *IF* he did what he described. And it is easy to check for 12V on Pin #4 with a VOM to see if there is power.

But the op still hasn't specifically described what is not working and his year/model RV.

He did say the clearance lights work when connected to the truck, but not when disconnected and he jumpered pins 4 and 3.

Pin 4 from the power cord has to go back to the battery somewhere. If you do not have +12 vdc on pin 4, did you look in the battery area to see if there is an in-line fuse to that plug?
