Who should mount new tires and correct jacking
Going to purchase Michelin 235/85/16 XPS ribbed to replace my Chinese Goodyear Marathons tomorrow. Who do you usually use to mount your tires (regular tire dealer of RV dealer)? The local dealer does not deal in tires so I called a couple of tire shops that said they have experience with trailers but always a little leery of something if I don't have prior experience. And what is the correct jacking point on the trailer? I have a Montana 3670 and live in Tulsa. Any advice would be appreciated.

Use the level-up to change the tires. I'd way more be at ease having a tire store swap out tires than any dealer should you find one that does. Walking down the scary path of where to jack up a fiver usually draws a heated discussion. I jack right under the springs in-between the u-bolts with the fiver still hooked to the truck. Way less stress on the unit as a whole.

I bought Ribs from Discount Tire. And they mounted them. Getting ready to have them install another set as these are 7 yrs old. Very little wear, 22,000 miles, and still look new, but .......

I also used the level-up system in manual mode. First I broke the lug nuts loose and then jacked the unit up and finished removing lug nuts and took old Trail King tires and rims along with new Sailuns to Costco and they dismounted the old (new) factory installed tires and mounted and balanced the new Sailun's. I think it was forty dollars for everything. Lots of Costco where we live and go and they will now also rotate them for me if I want.

I don't think I have the level up system on my 2003 3670. Isn't that the one touch leveling system? As far as jacking points, Diesel guy, does this still ring true for my 2003 3670? (" I jack right under the springs in-between the u-bolts)?

Yes, under spring between U bolt. Have them put on metal stems in case you want to put tire pressure sensors on later.

Hi
Dieselguy has it correct.
Make sure you Have the trailer hooked to you TV the tire shop is going to put an air jack under the springs and just push the button.
Make sure the tire shop has the correct equipment to balance the tires. I believe the wheels are lug centric and a lot of the tire shops can’t properly balance them but I know the GM auto dealers do have the proper equipment.

Do not go to Pep Boys. Nothing but problems for me! I ended up at a truck tire dealer who made things right with metal valve stems and properly balanced.

I have used Discount Tire Centers, Discount Tire, America's Tire and Les Schwab for my trailer tire work with great success. I always remove the tires on rims and take them to the dealer for change outs. I use large blocks and jacks to raise at the frame relieve some pressure then use a 6 ton bottle jack to raise the tire and remove it.
I use this method because I've seen dealers using a jack right under the axle and I prefer the frame method.
I've also heard Tire Pros might be another suitable option.

Agreed.
This is the correct method. If you get a "deer in the headlights" look from your tire installer when you mention this method, go to a different installer.

I used level up system for one side at a Big O Tire store. Then supervised their jack placement on the other side - under the spring and U bolt. They wanted to put it under the axle - probably a big mistake if I would have let them.

Mike: since you have the Level Up system, why worry about where to jack? Use the Level Up to raise the tires off the ground and there is no chance of bending an axle.

I would not think jacking under a axle would cause a problem as you probably still have some weight on the other tire and it seems like in real world driving one axle or the other will take the majority of the weight causing the same thing as placing a jack under an axle. Pretty sure my truck instructions tells me to put jack under axle to change the tire. Maybe I have been doing this wrong for years. Maybe they should put a sticker showing where to jack the units so we all know for sure. Because I have auto leveling I am lazy and used it to lift all the tires off the ground because it works and is convenient. I also only have one floor jack.

Jerry I have a pretty strong belief in hydraulics being able to hold weigh as that is what they are designed for. I used the auto level system on the manual control to lift the unit until all the tires were hanging after loosening the lug nuts. After four or five hours of getting tires changed from the barely adaquit to the new Sailun's I got back and there was no problem in putting the same size tires back on. Still had plenty of room to install them. With that being said am I willing to crawl under a rig and trust my life on the hydraulics? The answer is no I would also use some type of a positive jack that is mechanical in nature. Just common sense to always have a positive system when protecting life and limb.

One of the "Original Poster Adds" for the Level-Up System, used the ability to raise the wheels off the ground to change a tire as a selling feature. Then the Legal Eagles/Cover Your Butt folks got involved.
I'm on my third unit with the Level-Up and numerous times have has wheels on one side or the other off the ground because of an unlevel site.

Some of you are talking about using the level-up to lift your rig up to change tires. I have an HC with 4pt electric level-up. Will it work as well with that?
