Apollo went poof

We had good luck with our Apollo until Sat the first of Dec. Just a ball of fire. Got the fire out before any damage. Ordered a new one Mon and they would not even pay the freight. Hopefully be here tomorrow. DW dose like the 1/2 time part of it. If it goes out again there will NOT be another one.

Ours was out of warranty for LESS than a month. No breaks at all.

If ours ever fails, I know we are going to have buy another, or I starve! We did notice that Walmart had a GE micro-convection oven, but it does not seem to have the same capability as the Apollo. Keeping my fingers crossed, ours is a well used 3 year old now.

2 of them blew up on us in less than 1 year then we got one with a build date of Aug 06. We use the heck out of ALL the functions and it has been good for a year now.

As soon as the new one gets here and we change it I will let you know what the date is. Mine is I'm sure older then yours. Like Mike stated NO BREAKS.

Good news is that it hs been quite some time since Apollo failures have been posted. Ours is still working, replaced the door latch and broken plastic gizmo seal in the door. wife really likes it.

I tried to keep quiet so as not to jinx myself. We are on the third one in eight months. It did work fine for the last eight day trip when it received plenty of use (Thanksgiving). Hopefully the third one is the charmed one. I am like others, DW loves it so somehow I have to keep one in the rig. Last one that is still working had a build date, July 2007.

Dang Bingo,I hated to hear that. I have been going on Rich's comments about the newest one and no problems. Time will tell. We also lost the frig same time. Dometic took care of the parts and I had to pay labor. It was on its third year of warranty and have no complaint about the service from Dometic. Very good company. I blame the #@$^&^(& roads that we have. We pay taxes for road repair and upkeep but the roads seem not to get any funds. This really burns my butt if you know what I mean.

Are there any signs to look for before it blows up? I opened the door on mine and noticed all of the packing and materials inside. I closed the door and left it alone. I will get to unpacking it and reading the manual in a few days.

Our Apollo has a December 2006 date in it, which is on a 2008 3400RL. I now ask myself about the December 2006 date in a 2008 model. I wonder what others are discovering.

It does not work. I am taking it out to bring to our stick house here in Clermont FL. I have a dedicated 20 amp outlet that it requires. Will got through the owner hoops and if that does not work, I notify MidWest, who in turn calls Sears to make a house call to either repair or notify MidWest it's not repairable.

I do recommend that during a new unit walkthru those customers reading this thread, actually use this unit to see if it functions. It's probably one item most new buyers do not test or use during the PDA process. We didn't. Oh, the clock works!

It appears that those with a build date of Aug 06 and later are LESS prone to failure. That is why I inquire as to the build date. There is a brand new 2980 behind us with a Apollo build date of Sept 07 and he was replacing the "door latch" so that issue still exsist.

mail2us,
Aug 2006 was the build date on our first one that died. It never really died, the door switch went bad and the interior light stayed on constantly. Dealer exchanged it as I felt it could quickly become a fire hazard. Second one's death (buikd date Dec 2006) was complete and total, entire control panel (switches on right) died, another relacement, now the current one with a build date of July 2007. Hopefully this one lasts a couple of years, then we will hopefully trade the Apollo for a bigger oven that will conveniently be equipped with a Big Sky package (if they can invent a 340 with side-aisle and washer-dryer closet.....Hint Keystone).

You could conclude that Apollo build dates reveal in some cases that the only thing that changes is the "build date". Dennis

In our recent trip to CW to look at trailers, we noticed that several other SOBs also come with Appolos. It is not just a Keystone thing.

Yes ONTMONT friends have a SOB and it has a APOLLO.I will call them Mon morn and see if they have sent it and if not I will cancel it and buy something else. Midwest also stretches the truth because what they said I would have it by now has not happened. Not a business to deal with.

Ours died - replaced with just a microwave from Lowe's.
Had to do a bit of modification but the grill for the outside still works. I took measurements with me to shop for it and went with the best fit. Bought a GE.
We used ours a lot and our Monty is a 2005.

Apparently build date has nothing to do with anything. It is the luck of the draw.Sort of like the mission tires.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with that one Rich. Hopefully Mission tire mishaps are not directly correlated to Apollo failures, or else I may have a difficult year ahead??????

I can tell you that I was *REALLY* disappointed with the response from Midwest re: the Apollo. After getting a new unit (full retail), the response was - you'll get another year of warranty. My response - why do I need another year for something that should work? I have a microwave at my office that was my parents' - it is a 1970's vintage machine and IT WORKS!
