Friction hinges gone!!

Finally had my friction hinges replaced with regular hinges. My doer was getting torn apart by those darn things. No more slamming! Best $150 I’ve paid to CW.

While I usually do my own work, I paid for this job when the Montana was in for warranty work.
Pictures won’t show much as the hinges are nearly identical . The top and bottom hinges were replaced. Conventional hinges from LCI were used.

We just got our Montana and have had so much trouble with hinges, where did you bring your 5th wheel to replace them?

I have been oiling mine for a while. There is barely any friction left.

Been using CRC power lube with PTFE on ours since new as a preemptive strike. Like Dayrle pointed out, definitely not as much hinge friction as were when new. I can live with that.

While my FW was in Camping World for warranty work, I had them do it. I believe I paid $150. That was money well spent. I usually do all my own work but for the money it was well worth it

I just drilled the little pins that put pressure on the hinge pin and no more friction hinge they operate as a normal hinge now.

I've put so much oil on mine, there is very little "friction" left. Now I face just the opposite problem, wind. Wind catches the doors and slams them shut.

I'm not wanting to replace the hinges, I'm OK that the "friction" part is no longer an issue and the doors move freely. But to take care of the wind slamming them shut now, I went back to old-school and attached door holders on both doors now. Sometimes, old-school is still the best.

These, click here.

I spend 6 months at the ocean and the friction hinge never held the door open. Installed $6 plastic door holder so door stays open. Another Lippert idea that we didn't need. Door hinges should be left as designed hundreds of years ago.
