What broke on your last trip?

This might be an interesting thread. From the routine wear items to the unimaginable that can occur while owning a trailer.

Our last trip, which was for 13 days (5 days to Paso Robles and then 8 days in Avila Beach, California), I put 500 towing miles on my trailer. During the initial trip to Paso Robles, which took 4.25 hours, we discovered upon reaching our destination, the front closet clothing rod had broken. The left side circular "plastic" piece that holds the rod had failed, which then led to the center mount pulling out from the ceiling A quick trip to Lowes and I purchase a metal replacement rod holders (problem fixed).

From Paso we went to Avila Beach, a 45 minute drive, and were there for 8 days. Upon leaving, and dumping my grey and black tanks, I noticed leakage coming from the center plumbing, to the right of my main dump valve, which appears to be from my sink. Looks like the bottom plumbing, which is visible from underneath the rig is where the leak is at and not from inside.

Upon returning home, my remote RVLock face plate sticker, that has the keypad numbers, decided to fly off. I emailed RVLock and explained the situation. They got back to me immediately and would replace the factory sticker for free, or I could upgrade to a new silicone pad that goes underneath the face of the lock, which would cure any further problems like I had. The new silicone pad I ordered was $19.99. I plan on tackling the small sink leak before our next trip in August. That about sums up the problems we faced on our 13 day trip.

Our last trip was from the middle of Kansas to Tucson. No problems at all.

The heater on our 2013 3402RL would try to start, the fan would turn on, a few seconds later the propane would fire up...then stop. This process would only continue until I turned off the heater...(turned out its a faulty thermostat...currently at the dealer waiting for the replacement). Then the center area beneath the 5'vr that has a coroplast black cover broke loose while travelling. Several areas were ground up, shaved off while grinding over the asphalt at 60 mph. That's been repaired/replaced now also. This was our last outing going from So Cal to mid-Florida and back.

We also were in Avila beach from the 9th of July to the 16th, after hooking up we left to get something to eat, returning to find water 💦 under the trailer. We were gone for about an hour. Discovered the main water was turned off, opened my cargo door were all connection are and found the flex hose to my water filter had came apart on the male end of hose.
It was connected on the upstream side of regulator. Later in the week we were told by the camp host that they had shut off the water.
Also had the toilet randomly not working. We would flush and no water🤔, we would open and close water at vanity and water would start in the toilet. I've changed water valve and vacuum breaker before this trip.
I was told that possible the water hose heating by laying on the black top at the camp site, causing a vapor lock. You got to love these rolling earthquakes.

Just got back home from visiting a COE just South of Magazine Mountain in Arkansas. Beautiful country and vistas! Last Sunday we had a very unexpected storm roll through with broadside winds strong enough to give the fiver a real good shaking. Thankfully the awnings were on the leeward side and we got them in without issue. Roof check the next morning revealed one of the two sewer vent caps had snapped off. After some half-hearted searching, DW found the errant vent cap and I siliconed it back on and ordered a replacement just in case.
Note to self: No matter how still the winds have been for over a week, stop being lazy and bring in the awnings at night! That could have turned out badly had the winds been from the opposite direction.

You lucky dog! Where do I start?
1) Alternator went out on truck on day 2.
2) Receiver for Dish tv went out same time.
2a) I had eye abrasion last year - same time and place so went to doc because it was starting to bother again (dry eye). Got that taken care of over 3 days and okay now.

3) A week or so later the bedroom A/C went out. Big problem - we were only staying in one place for a week - Kalispell, MT. Called ahead and dealer there was booked thru the end of summer. Kept looking and finally found a place in Davenport Iowa that could order it and have it installed on the 2 days I was in town. This was about 4 weeks in advance!
4) A few days later the microwave quit. I didn't want to try to install it myself so I got the Davenport dealer to install one that I tracked down on the internet. Kind of a problem is most new microwaves are about an inch taller and we have 7/8 inch clearance underneath to clear the folding lid over the stove. Found one at BestBuy in Billings and carried around for 3 weeks.
5) Oh, I forgot - we had a week in Kalispell but during all the rain in June, it had a foot of water on it! This was with one week notice and near July 4, so no where to stay in the area.
6)Minor thing - level on back of rig fell off so had to get a new one so we could level!
7) had a road stretch of REALLY wavey and swails. Got in and the kitchen cabinet door had opened and the weight of it bouncing pulled the top hinge out and bent the bottom one. Just happen to have a replacement from previous problem so got it fixed.


Also, I spent $6000 last fall for a spray on roof and $7000 to fix welds on the front AND the rear side walls.



Other than these things, a great trip!! LOL

A couple of trips ago I noticed oil on one of the hydraulic slide feet. Cleaned it up and it appreared again. So cleaned it up again. Next trip no leak and has not leaked while stored.

Same trip kitchen sink water line leaked. Cleaned up the water and put a small pan under it to monitor the leak. Next next trip no leak.

I like it when leaks dissappear.

Last 1000 mile trip to the New England area. Roads were so bad I broke a spring (replaced all 4 of them ) bent rear axle so it was out of camber by 1 3/8 inch (had it bent back for $294 dollars) lost 2 rear tires due to cord showing on the inside edge in 400 miles because of bent axle ( replaced all 4 tires) People that live in the New York, Boston area can have it I`ll never go back up there and spend any money.
Weather was nice though, people seemed friendly except the ones driving.

I have a 2017 High Country 310RE
Gear box on pop out broke on this trip. Had spare one.. Not too bad.Easy fix.
I have 34,000 miles on this 5th wheel.

Currently in Nova Scotia Canada. Roads are bad.
Right rear spring broke and a 4yo Sailun tire blow out (road debris).
Leaf spring changed, changed all 4 Sailun tires for new Sailun tires.
Currently working on fixing the underneath damage from the blow out.
I'll write it up on a separate thread with pictures...

Edit: forgot, the spare tire carrier lift broke too.

My leaf spring also broke in Nova Scotia and a blue out at the same time. Git it fixed after we crossed the river on the ferry. Fast and cheap repair.

Finally got round to fixing the half wall between living room and kitchen properly. I routed a decorative edge on a piece of 1"x2" red oak and stained it to match as close as possible. Used Locktite to adhere it to the wall on the kitchen side and another short piece on the living room side. Added screws to hold while the Locktite cured. That wall won't come loose again!

It's always something. Last trip was the Furnace. The Heat Pump worked just fine. Furnace now fixed. Also, the auto level system had some typical hiccups.

Last year's trip, however, was different.
1. Truck thermostat failing/overheating. Found one and replaced it
2. 5er Converter died. Amazon had one. Had it shipped to our next stop and replaced it.
3. Both batteries went bad, likely due to bad converter. Got 2 more
4. 45 mins from getting back home and truck alternator died. Got towed home and replaced it next morning.

Still a good, educational trip. As long as parts are available doing the repairs is just part of the gig.

Just returned today from 5 nights out, 480 miles round trip. Nothing that I know of.

On my last trip upon pushing out the slides I ripped off a cabinet door. I have read many times about this happening but my cabinet doors never seemed to open up while traveling. i bought a new door hinge and installed magnetic child safety latches to the cabinet doors near the slide out.
