SURVEY FOR QUARTZSITE 2012
Okay, I know Quartzsite is still a ways off yet, but I need to get this information early enough to make a decision on dates and allow everyone enough time to plan for the event.
GROUP PHOTO "POTLUCK DAY" 2011
For those of you that have attended a rally at Quartzsite or will be attending in 2012, I have a short survey for you. As the nominated/volunteered Wagon Masters, Dave and I are considering holding the rally the week after the RV Show as the desert is pretty empty and there are still vendors in town. This hopefully will reduce the need to arrive early and secure a piece of land big enough to form the “Circle” which has become the trademark of the Quartzsite Rally and everyone should be able to stay for the entire rally and still be in compliance with the BLM Rules.
"THE CIRCLE" 2011
So on a scale of 1-3, how important is being at Quartzsite during the RV Show to you?
1 = Very important
2 = Neutral
3 = Not important
If we start the rally the week after the RV Show, there is a Hobby, Craft & Gem Show and following this, a Classic Car Show that happens in the “Big Tent”. This year I departed Quartzsite 3 days after the RV Show ended and the desert was pretty barren and there were still plenty of vendors in town and open.
The RV Show is currently scheduled for 21-29 January 2012 and we are looking to arrive at Quartzsite Wednesday 1 February 2012 and officially have the rally either 4-11 February (Sat – Sat) or 6-13 February (Mon – Mon).
Here is a link to the RV Show for 2012 and a link to the Car Show for 2011: Quartzsite 2012.

Jack, I think that being there for the RV Show is pretty important to some people. With that being said and we are allowed 14 days you could have the rally from January 21-27. Those that wanted to be there longer and try to hold a spot could be there from say January 17-30. That will take up the 14 days and the show. JMHO. #2 Rich

There are a number of us who also go to the Gem and Mineral Show in Tucson. That show is much larger than Quartzsite and starts the first of February. Quartzsite has already moved the "Big RV Show" and subsequent events to the very last part of January for some unknown reason causing conflicts with the Tucson show. Moving the MOC gathering to February will cause a conflict for us.
P.S. If you think the RV Show at Quartzsite is of little value, wait until you see the Hobby, Craft & Gem Show and the Classic Car Show (I take it the Chili Cookoff died due to lack of interest?).
On edit: While our preference was implied, I added an explicit vote.

Jack, I think I understand your situation here. Due to the situation where we can only be there for the 14 days, it will be difficult to get there early enough to reserve the space necessary for a rally of the size we had this year. It sounds like a "no win" situation to me. Having it later will free up more available land and make it unnessary to get there early to reserve space. This may cause hardship for those who wish to be there for the RV show and for those who have other plans elsewhere of February.
Perhaps another idea is to figure out a way that we can have the rally at the usual time and possibly do away with the circle (which does take up a lot of space I think). Not sure how that would work. We didn't come early, so we are not sure how difficult it is to claim the land. Or, could we possibly move to a different location? Last year was a first for us, so I may not know as much about how all this works. Just trying to help find a solution.

Great inputs......keep them coming. This is the kind of info we need. I know that we will not be able to please everyone, but we will do our best given the constraints we must work with.
We are already looking at new dates to include at least part of the RV Show during the "Official" 1 week rally.

We also attend events the week before the show in Quartzsite. The Ranger did say they would work with the MOC on letting a few be there early to set up the circle if we let him know.

Jack and Dave,
Thanks for taking on the task of WM for the Q event. We missed the event this year but certainly plan to be there in 2012.
Re: The poll question.... = 2.
Thanks, Dennis and Mary Kay

The big show is becoming more of a "Slice and Dice" sales pitch. The RV's are only available for inspection until sold, and that seems to happen quickly.

Jack & David, you have a challenge ahead of you. We support whatever decision you make on the dates. For survey purposes, we support #2.

#1 - because of the date.
We are off to Tucson the end of January. Not only for the rock show, but there are also 4 fabulous bead shows in Tucson.

#1...As an RV gathering, we think you'll find most attendees will want to go to the RV show, whether or not they're in the market for a new RV. Keeping in mind that the later we arrive at Quartzsite in January, the harder it'll be to secure a good place for the Montana circle, we'd suggest the official gathering possibly be set for the week of January 18-25. A good many people could arrive as early as January 11 to help set up the circle and will still be able to stay through the first part of the RV show and all of the gathering. That also frees up those who want to move to Tucson in late January. We're just sayin'...

Jack and Dave,
#1, it does give us more options, at the beginning and end of the month to do other things.

I don't yet know whether we'll go west or east this next Winter. If we can be there, then #2 for us. It's always enjoyable to go to an RV show but, for us, we'd be there mostly for the moc'ers. That's just us.

We're working on our calendar and currently plan on being in Quartzsite from around January 23 through 30th. Hopefully that aligns with part of the MOC rally. Are there official dates for the rally yet?
Looking forward to seeing you all!

Everybody just hold on, I have it with good authority that the dates will be posted anytime now. So Jack when ever you are ready, go ahead. Our rally ends tonight.
