Alarm system for trailer in storage

I have always had the trailer on the drive way next to the house. This week it has to go to a storage yard - we sold the house. We will be living close by and will pass the storage place couple times a day. What I would like to do is hook up an alarm light on the front hitch plate which would light up if someone opened the door. That way I can see the light from the road. Any suggestions ?
THANKS

I think if you can get a blinking light that would be more noticeable, but then all this would only work if the crook used the door and the invasion was at dark and you were awake. I'm guessing a 24/7 system would be better. What about the cargo doors and windows? I think a crook would be more likely try to break in by not using something so obvious like the door and might just want to fence what they find in the storage areas. Not that I'm experienced in how a crook thinks.

Wait, you're in Texas. Wouldn't a rigged 12 gauge aimed at the door cost less than a blinking light. Oh, maybe not a good idea if you went to check the trailer and "forgot".

It's nice you are that close by! There can be all kinds of anti-theft ideas from lights to installing a system that calls your house or cellphone, but these need power and a guaranteed power source. For example, are your rig's batteries being charged and conditioned continuously? I think you should seek a 24/7 system that notifies you otherwise you are watching the storage unit as it gets dark and you don't fall asleep.

Just my thoughts and opinion.

Joe,

You might want to look at this post I did a while back. It is cheap and works good.
