From the horses mouth

This is the response I received when I emailed Carefree of Colorado about whether there was instruction for manual operation.

"Good afternoon and thank you for your email.
We do not have instructions for manually operating the Travel'r it is a
12V electric awning and there is no manual over ride."

Well, hecky darn. That was the one I was interested in. I guess if you have it out and, for some unknown reason, you lose your batt power and the wind comes up, you can kiss it goodbye, automatic wind sensor or not. That is a real bummer!!!! The A & E electric is looking better and better!!!!! I realize that losing complete batt power is a slim chance but still something to consider.

Yeppers, there is no manual way to retract it other than pushing it up against the RV and wrapping a rope around the whole rig.

However, I think Stiles pointed out before that there are some contacts up on the motor and the Carefree comes with an emergency cable with aligator clips that let you raise it with another battery direct, or even the battery on an electric drill. The installer operated mine with his 9V drill battery while installing it before he finished the power switch.

I don't know if the A&E can be raised manually. The A&E motor is inside the tube, while the carefree is out on the forward pod.

exav8tr - I don't want to bias your selection, but one of the deciding factors for me was to see the construction of the carefree scissor arm and the A&E elbow arm side by side.

The AE power awning can be closed manually using 2 people but then requires servicing according to the User's Guide. Click below and then to P.3 for the procedure involved. If you would guess or conjecture, let me know why it would have to be serviced once closed. I just don't know and have not had to close it manually yet. Tks. Dennis

Brad, I will compare when the time comes. Thanks for the "heads up"!!

Dennis, I read that also and don't have a clue except maybe something to do with proper cycling of motor??? (sounds good, eh?)
