ye gads
Weighed the new 08 F-350 this morning. Full tank of fuel, Hitch installed, no one on board...8710lbs. put two people (and the bird) aboard. Add assorted rv stuff that one drags around in the bed and we will be looking at 9200lbs or better. Now we have a anchor towing a anchor.Think the camper package, snow plow package and off road package added some weight..This thing has a 15K GVWR....9K rear, 6K front. It rides a bit stiff...I think we will be Ok on pin weight.Just turned 500 miles so we are ok to tow according to manufactures specs..(if you pay any attention to that stuff)

Rich,
If you want to see how far it is between fuel stops and how the new rig tows on hills, head east into NW PA for Meadville, Titusville, Bradford areas. Just back from there. Rural PA is some hilly and can be a bit far between fuel opportunities. Thank goodness for the large tank on F250! Enjoy that new ride!!!

"head east into NW PA for Meadville, Titusville, Bradford areas." That part of the country is my old hunting /camping/hiking grounds. There are some very good grades in that area. The old road from Oil City to Tionesta will test your driving skills. We still go up to the Kinzua dam area and Hearts Content/Wheeler fire tower area.

The snow plow pakage and the camper package was on the truck..We did not order it and we do go south or south west for the winter. Both those packages beef up the suspension and is a good thing for towing heavy loads so we do not mind that they were on the truck.

Rich, I'm sure you will love the new truck. Mine is great. I don't have the crew cab but do have the Heavy duty front suspension. I believe that the camper package is not much more than a rear stablizer the the dually comes with anyway(plus a piece of paper). I see that you got the 4:10 rear as did I. I am looking into switching to a 4:30 because of excessive shifting. Hopefully your oil burner won't experince this like my gasser does. Happy trails to you all. Bob

Bob..I had the 4:30's in my 05 V-10..felt I needed all the torque I could get..We did not note excissive shifting and the fuel milage towing still averaged around 8.5.

I am a bit confused by the numbers I see on the sticker. perhaps someone knowledgeable can clarify.
GVWR is 13,000LBS
GAWR Front is 6,000LBS
GAWR Rear is 9,000LBS
CC is 4268 Lbs
The truck has the camper package and the snow plow package
I am not sure how those numbers relate to one another as the combined GAWR of 15K is more than the GVWR of 13K ?????

Rich, Thanks for the input on the rear gears. The answer to your question about the GAWRs and the GVWR not jiving is the same as the answer to the axle weights and the pin weights being more than the GVWR on our trailers. If put the 6k on the front, you can only put 7k on the rear. If you put 9k on the rear you only have 4k to play with on the front. You do have the 4268 as useable cargo, minus you, Helen, the bird, and a little fuel. Still plenty left for Monty. Bob
PS I have the same axle ratings but only have a GVWR of 12,400. My F350 is the supercab 4x2. I imagine your extra 600# covers the crewcab and the 4x4.

The snow plow package and the camper package not only add to weight but also are causing the stiffness in the ride. There are some pretty hefty suspension augmentations in those packages.

Steve..The suspension with the camper and snow plow package on this thing is awesome and the ride is a bit stiff. However I will sacrifice the soft ride for the better suspension for towing the heavy campers that we do. When I set this 3400 anchor on the hitch it barley moved the springs.

Like ggranch said, you can put any amount of weight on either axle, as long as you don't exceed the axle rating and the total of both axles does not exceed the GVWR. Gives us some flexibility in loading our trucks.
richfaa, your GVWR of 13000 compares to my DRW D/A GVWR of 11400. However, our cargo capacities are within a few pounds. That means your truck is 1600 heavier than mine. Ford makes one heavy truck.

Ford makes one heavy truck.".. I had mentioned that the truck with a full tank of fuel and the hitch weighed in at 8710 lbs add Myself and Helen some camper stuff in the bed and we should be around 9200lbs. You can safely say that Ford makes a heavy truck.

Rich, with the snow plow package, you can always go to Indianapolis, or Buffalo in January and make some extra spending money

Rich,
At 9200 sounds like you have already used up some of your Cargo Capacity as you only have 3,800# left! (13000 - 9200). On my SRW Chevy my GVWR is 1500# less than the combined axle ratings. I believe all makes of P/U are limited to less than their GAWRs added together. Still, I would rather have your 13000 GVWR than the 9200 I am stuck with.

We will still be well within the spec's even with the Real pin weight of the 3400..That is why we have this cumbersome. pain in the butt Dually.Everything is a trade off.
