Wheel Lug Nuts

A word of caution to people getting a new trailer.
On a new trailer the wheel lug nuts loosen very quickly. The mechanic at the RV dealer said that is caused by paint on the wheels wearing off. There is a sticker above the tandem wheels that says to check the torque on the nuts every 50 miles for the first 200 miles. DO IT!
We picked up our Montana on Tuesday. The dealer mechanic said that the nuts were tightened. I believe him since we did some driving including backing in their lot to adjust the brakes without any problem.
We drove 27 miles to our home. When we started to back into the driveway the tandem wheels on the inside of the turn were cocked at several degrees off of vertical in opposite directions. It was scary! A neighbor had a socket that fit the nuts and we tightened them right there in the middle of the street. Luckily there was very little traffic. After that the wheels were fine while backing into the driveway.
It is probably best to have a wrench with you when you get your new Montana.
