Which Size Generator?

I am thinking of getting a portable generator to use on our 5th wheel, 2004 - 2980RL. I have been thinking about the Honda or Yamaha around the 3000 to 3500 Watt range. Is this enough to handle the job?

Would like to be able to run the A/C when dry camping and it is warm outside. Not a big requirement to run the A/C and Micro at the same time! Also want to use it to recharge the batteries when out camping for an extended stay in the woods.

Thanks for any advise.
Scott

If Your a/c is a 13,500 BTU then 1 Honda Eu2000i generator should suffice. It'll run the air or the micro just not both. It's lightweight (50 lbs) and VERY quiet. Kinda pricey but quality costs. It creates very clean power so a tv or computer won't have any issues with it. If the size is too small they can be linked together with about $30 in parts from Home Depot (or You can buy the $200 cord from Honda).

I have one but need another to run my 15 k A/C unit. I have used a friends in the past and twinned them and they work great.

I use 2 Honda EU2000i generators twined together. They work everthing in our camper just fine. I bought them because of the weight. I can manage lifting them for storage by myself. I also built a 5 gallon gas tank for them so they can run for longer periods without having to refill them.

I have a 15,000 BTU and bought the Honda 3000 which runs the air AWESOME....Can also run the T.v's and video games. I went with the NON EUI or EIU as they are heavier. I can lift it myself.

Also went with the portable so we can use it at home if we need it.

DHenry, can you elaborate on the 5 gallon feeder tank setup?

Montana sue, what model Honda generator do you have? I am looking for a lightweight generator but most are over 125 pounds.

I have a Yamaha 2800i. I've used it to power my 15000 BTU AC.

Here's a link for info on the 2800i:

This is it http://www.hondanews.com/CatID5021?m...60783&mime=JPG. We bought it from a local dealer, paid $1150, but I have seen it cheaper on line.

I can lift it myslef and like I said, it runs the necessities AWESOME!!! Plus, if we loose power at home, we can use it there too.

Let us know what you end up with.

I would imagine the one Sue has is rather loud. Only the Eu Honda's or the Inverter Yamaha's are quiet others are rather noisy. It all depends upon what You want to do with it. We have run the Honda's overnight and even when the air cycles off I can't hear them running outside.

It's not bad , we only have one horse show that doesn't allow electric for the campers and with the windows shut because we are running the air, I don't hear it.....

It all depends on your personal needs. We didn't want one built in so that we can use it at home, and I wanted one I COULD lift as I don't depend on anyone when I want to use it. I am very independent

Sorry I forgot to add a little info. My A/C is the 15,000 model. I would like to run the Refrigerator, TV and Satelite reciever at the same time with the A/C. Will this work? The quiet model would definitly be a big plus!

Also, will this recharge the batteries on the trailer with just the shore line plugged into the generator or do I have to connect it directly to the battery with special jumper like cables?

Thanks for all of the reply and info. This is a great site to get some advise and information.

If You want to run the sat reciever then I would stay away from construction type generators and get an inverter equipped one. Either 2 Honda Eu2000i's(if You just want to watch TV one will work, will need the second for a/c), an Eu3000i (if the 150 lbs and room is not an issue), or the Yamaha 2800i.

I went with the flexibility of the 2000 Honda's and the fact thatthey are 50 lbs each. They fit easily in the front compartment.
