Help! stain for 2012 Hickory edition

We just got our new Big Sky 3750. Decided to add some cupboard doors on cabinet as you come in the rig. We are having a hard time matching the stain. Does Anybody know what will match? Thanks

We asked the factory for some to fix a scratch on one of the chairs and were told it is not available. I think you will just have to mix your own.

You can get markers to cover a scratch from a furniture store. To cover a whole door I'd try a cabinet shop.

I built extra shelves for my 2010 Hickory Edition cabinets. I experimented with a few stains on scrap pieces and the closest I could get was MinWax Early American Stain #230 followed by several coats of MinWax Satin Polyurethane. It's not a perfect match. The plywood shelves with their pine half round molding on the front stained differently as did the Red Oak shelves I used in one of the narrower cabinets. It really depends on the wood being stained. The shelves, being inside the cabinets, tolerate in imperfect match, but because they are inside and not the first thing you would see walking in the door, they pass for a fairly close match.

The flash from the camera made it seem lighter on the front edge.

You can get it from the factory that makes the cabinets -Middlebury hardwood cabinets--they can maybe help you out. I have some if you want to come up to Omaha or the Central plains Rally next summer--I would share

When I replaced the 40 lb boat anchor tv in the bedroom and had to frame out the new LCD unit, I brought a scrap of the framing wood and a piece of the cabinet wood to a local paint store (happened to be a Pittsburg store) that primarily sells to pros. They mixed up some stain for me that matched extremely well.

I have used a brand called "DALYS" wood stain, Fruitwood 49 Product#104049 and it matches perfectly. You will need to apply 2-3 coats and then a satin poly finish, but I am sure you will be pleased with the results.

Shortly after we bought our rig we damaged the stile on one of the cabinets. I had to sand it completely down to bare wood and refinish it. It is a perfect match and you can not even tell it was ever repaired. When adding shelves, doors and trim, I have used red oak for the material and the same stain and finish for the same excellent results.

Thanks for that post on Dalys. Wish I would have known that a few months ago.

Thanks for the tip on Dalys.

Any good paint shop should be able mix stain to match. A lot depends on the material that is being stained for getting the proper mix.

Just anothe reason to attend the fall rally. Middlebury cabinet brought along a few cans of stain when they did thier presentation.

When I installed my fireplace, I ended up using wood of various types including some red oak and some whitewood trim pieces. I used 3 different colors of minwax. I applied a coat of one, let it dry, then a coat of another, let it dry, then a coat of another. And repeated a couple of times with one color or the other until the color of the new wood closely matched the original.
In the picture, they all appear to be the same type wood, but there are actually 3 or 4 different types.
