second battery

Has anyone installed a second battery? If so, How did you accomplish this? I tried a search but was unable to find anything. I had a second battery installed in our TT that was wired in parallel. I do have a small generator however. Am I better off using the generator instead of a second battery? The campground does have restrictions on generator usage. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Lots of us have added additional battery capacity in various ways. The way I (and some others) did it was to install two 6v Trojan T-105 golf cart batteries in a "Blue Sea" brand battery box that is designed for that purpose. The batteries are then connected in series to give 12v.

6 volt batteries do not of themselves have any capaacity advantage over the equivalent 12 volt battery, but they are more easily handled than one big 12 volt battery. Golf cart batteries are favoured because they are true deep cycle batteries that are strongly built and provide a good bang for the buck. There is lots of info on the internet about various types of batteries, you could start at the Trojan site, but don't stop there.

I will most whole heartedly "second" everything my friend John, "OntMont" has said above. This was the first issue that brought me into active participation on this forum. I did exactly as John has described above. Here is a photo of my installation:

I have also written up some notes on my installation which can be accessed here:

I went to Overtons.com and bought a splitter switch I call it. I is a high performance battery switch. Item 70446 - Price $29.99. With this switch, you can have #1 batt. on. #2 batt. on, or #1 & #2 on, or everything off....JB

Vince - take a look at the other thread here about 6 volt and this:
http://bart.ccis.com/home/mnemeth/12volt/12volt.htm

David, where did the battery box come from? All I've seen on the Internet seem waaaay overpriced !!

Thanks everyone, I truly appreciate all the advice. I will install the second battery as soon as I get the new rig home.

I am adding a second battery, 12 volt, to my 5th wheel. When I connect them do I wire the positive to the positive and the negative to the negative? As you may be able to tell I am not an electrician.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
