Dometic Vacuum

We ordered our 3400 with the Dometic Vacuum. Somewhere on this list I remember someone suggesting that some kind of brush attachment be purchased from Dometic to clean with the unit more efficiently. Is this a power head similar to what is in regular house central vacs? What exactly might he/she been referring to?

It is called a beater bar..You might wantt to wait till you see if you need one. Helen says it does a good job as it is. The vacuum is not your home vacuum but then the carpeting in the camper is not your home carpeting..

Sue loves the beater bar attachment we got, works great, I have had bits of fine wire, saw dust, and just plain dirt, it picked them up with ease.

Ozz, did Sue try w/o? Cheryl's inclination matches Helen's. She and Helen are friends, but did not discuss this between them and they both came to the same conclusion. Keystone did not scimp on their vacuum. Fantastic machine.

Yes, she did try it, and it does have great suction, but the beater bar serves a function of shaking the carpet, loosening debris that is ground in. Airborne carpet matter is easily sucked in. I am a MESSY worker!
She still uses the hose without the beater bar as well. If a hose and non beater heads worked better, you would not find beater bars in residential vacuums. IMHO.

How much was the beater bar, Ozz? I have thought of eventually getting one. For now Cheryl is happy, but I am aware that sand and other stuff eventually could build up. I guess, though, it wouldn't hurt to do a regularly scheduled professional cleaning once every 6 mos or a year... Could probably get away with not needing the beater bar with this approach?

It was $49.00, if I remember correctly. You could just borrow someones vacuum, once every 6 month's with a beater bar, and save the 49 smackers......
And if the missus is happy, that's what it's all about.

If we come across a beater bar somewhere we will most likely buy one. The carpet in the camper is so thin and the pad is just thin foam also. We have one of those Super Kirby systems in the house and it sucks the carpet off the floor in the camper..The beater bar can't hurt.

Just for the record, if you have a central vac at home with a power beater bar, you can probably use it with the Dometic vac. in the trailer. We do, just plug it into an outlet and away you go.

Beater bar? Is that the turbine driven thing that came with our Dyson that looks like a small brush? If so I wonder if you couldn't use it too. Dunno, we don't have the high dollar model with the built in central vac...

Looks like this:

We have talked of adding a central vac, but can't see the expense just yet. We thought of adding a shop vac in the basement and plumbing that inside but I don't know if it would have the suction.
