Microwave broken turntable plastic

We have only had our Montana for a few months, and already the plastic piece that the microwave turntable sits on has broken, been replaced and broken again. Am I doing something wrong? They cost $30. to replace.

I would suggest putting that piece somewhere that it couldn't happen again. Mine hasn't broken and we have hit some really good bumps. Don't think you are doing anything wrong, inspect the inside of the microwave and see if there is anything that might be putting pressure on it. Kathi

We remove our glass turntable plate and wrap it in a towel and store it in a drawer for when the Montana is in motion. If you aren't removing your glass plate, maybe the weight of the glass plate on the plastic turntable arms while the Monty is in motion is what's breaking the arms?

Thank you very much for your replies. Is there anywhere in particular to buy replacements for a reasonable price? I got my first replacement through Camper World.

I'd probably turn to the paperwork that came (hopefully) with your microwave and see if they offer a replacement plastic turntable arm assembly.

If you don't have that paperwork... post here what brand/model/model #/year of mfg you have and maybe one of us will have the same one and can check on that for you. Check on the inside of the door or microwave for a sticker that might have all that info.

Hmmm, ours is in the rear of the coach where it's the bounciest and has never broken in 30k miles. It has been bounced out of its little hole but that's about it. Maybe they're a different model microwave now or perhaps the turntable is different. Ours is glass, too, though.

I believe we have the same microwave as Steve R., at least the same set up. Have the glass turntable and the plastic part underneath that turns it. I wrap the glass in a dish towel for travel, but then you all know our experiences with bouncing kitchens. Course, the bounce is all but gone now!

We moved about 30 miles down the road the other day, I forgot to put the silverware carrier and condiment carrier I keep on the table away. They were BOTH in their respective spots when we arrived! Thank you Isolator! Tee heee

Our previous 5th wheel had a rear kitchen and we learned a trick from a trailer life magazine. Save the cardboard tube from your next roll of Saran Wrap or Wax paper and cut it the height of the inside of the microwave plus a little extra. This keeps the glass plate wedged so it can not move or bounce around. It's quick, fast, inexpensive, and works great. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions... Ours is a rear kitchen too, and we haven't been anywhere particularly bumpy. I'll just have to protect it. It has been very nice to hear from all of you.

Great tip, tbhd! I really like inexpensive fixes! (I have SWS - Squeaky Wallet Syndrome)
