Branson MO

We are heading south tomorrow to begin our winter travels. Branson will be our first destination and we have reservations at Lake Taneycomo State Park. When we leave Branson we want to head south to I-40. Can anyone recommend the best roads to take from Branson south to I-40?

I came up hiway 65 a couple weeks ago. It was a good road. Anywhere back there you're gonna have hills. Be sure to see the Pressleys show. Bill

Dixiedawg, Which way are you heading on I-40? If you are going west 65 takes you way south and east. The e/w roads through the southern part of Missouri and Northern Ark. are all hilly and crooked. I'd probably run North up 65 to I-44 then take it to I-40. If you are headed East on I-40 65 is your best shot but From Harrison south it is full of hills, curves, and little towns you have to slow down for. We have driven them all. They are all doable with the 5'er just slow and bit of white knuckle driving. Jim

Our plan is to go west from Branson eventually ending up in the greater LA area for xmas. Thank you both for your help and we seen the Pressleys' last year and we're looking forward to seeing them again. We were laughed so hard during the show we had tears running down our cheeks.
We had considered going back north up 65 to connect with I-44. Those darn maps never show the hills and all roads look pretty straight. It is always great to hear from someone with first hand experience. I-44 it is.
While in Branson we will be staying at Table Rock State Park.

Yes, Table Rock State Park is great. Agree with Hwy 65. It is a good road and great scenery. Enjoy your trip to Branson and the #1 show for the past couple of years has been SIX. Check them out.

Dixiedawg, We left Branson last Monday. We went north on 65 to Springfield, Mo. There are hills to about Ozark, then I think it pretty well flattens out. The toll on I-44 was $19.50 to Oklahoma City. Site 133 and the ones on that side of the loop at Table Rock St Park is satellite friendly, should you have one. Bill

We have not stayed at Table Rock before and are not familiar with the campground. When we made reservations there was only two sites available, 111 & 119. We took site 119 because it was level. Bill, do you think we will get satellite at that site?

Dixiedawg, check this site out,it's a map of Table Rock St Park, campground 1.

http://mostateparks.com/campground/t...k-campground-1

Sites 114 to 127 are against the trees. Campground host ( nice people) are in site 117, which is next to site 119. He has a cube type antenna next to the road. You should be able to set your dish next to his with no problems. If you have a roof mount antenna, it may not work, altho the leaves are off the trees now. Sites 128 to 138 are Non-reservable (first come, first served) and are all sat. friendly. When you check in, see which sites are open, may be you could change. They are not busy this time of the year. If the Temp gets down to freezing, they will turn the water off in the park, but they will give you notice before they do that. Bill

Bill, thanks so much for the info, it is much appreciated. We have the DISH tailgator. We're currently in Council Bluffs and hope to make it to Table Rock today to check it out.

Another good way to go is back up US65 to I-44 West then south on US71 (which turns into I-540) and that dumps into I-40 just outside of Fort Smith, AR. It's four lane the entire way and the only slow downs are a few lights in Bella Vista in Northwest Arkansas but even that is four lanes and not that bad. 70 mph, no tolls, little traffic and very scenic.

Just a brief follow on Table Rock State Park. The office closes at 3:30 and we arrived at 3:45. Site 119 only has a 30 amp hook up. I asked for a 50 amps when I made the reservation. We moved to site 136 a first come first serve site and the office was very courteous and allowed the change this AM. The park is great, lots of room and nice walking trails around the lake. Would have been nice to have been here earlier when the fall colors were at their peek.
Thanks Captain Joe for the tip on SIX, we'll see them next week.
