Question to TST users

I am looking at purchasing the TST monitoring system and my question is to those of you who are currently using this system. Did you replace the valve stems with metal ones prior to installing or did you mount the monitors to the existing stems? If mounted to existing stems, any issues?

I have a mixture, metal on the trailer, rubber on the truck, all seems to be ok. Three years of use

I have the steel stems on the Monty and had no problems. However, when we just purchased new tires for the dually, NTB did not have any steel stems so I had them put the short stems on the duals. The TST monitors were then placed on the short stems and we departed for Florida thinking all was well. Within 40 miles of leaving the house, the TST starts beeping and sure enough, we have a leak and of course it was on the inside dually. Since I always travel with a compressor, I was fortunate to be able to air the tire up and took the monitors off of the truck tires. No more problems. Bottom line, if you are going to use the monitors, I strongly suggest the use of steel stems. Truck is coming up for inspection next month and I will be switching to steel stems. The rubber stems provide leeway for flexing which will result in a loss of air pressure. Buy the steel stems!

I also had a problem with them becoming loose on the rubber stems and leaking. I took them off and am planning on putting in steel stems also.

Originally I kept the high pressure stems on 1/2 metal and 1/2 rubber ones. After six months or so one of the stems split at the rim hole. The guy who fixed it said he see this quite a bit with this kind of setup. he told me to get all metal stems to be safe. He said the weight of the transmitter is too much for the stem to handle. Go steel.

I went to steal after two rubber ones on the trailer failed. I put steal all the way around, truck and trailer. Better safe than failure.

Another option is to use their soon to be released internal sensors. I contacted them last week and they are to be available in April. There is a little info on them on their website under the new 507 system at the very bottom.
