relocate heat duct

how many monty owners have relocated the heat duct going into the water closet? i relocated ours from the water closet to the living area. under the steps is a good place to put the heat duct.

has anyone insulated the main heat trunk line in the big storage area under the bed? is there any reason not to insulate the line? would things in the basement freeze up if the duct was insulated?

Can't tell from your post what model unit you are referring to. Just thinking outloud as your questions would apply to our 3000RK, under my stairs is the return air for the furnace. To put a heat duct right next to a return air would certainly lower the effort of the duct. The hot air from the duct would immediately go back into the air return reducing the heat that stays in the trailer. Probably make for a cold water closet also if you use the unit in cold weather.
In my unit the heat duct running in the storage area under the bed has no effect on preventing water lines from freezing. They are all behind the petetion seperating the storage area from the underbelly. There is a seperate heat duct dumping directly into the underbelly to keep the pipes from freezing.
Perhaps if we knew what you are trying to accomplish some better suggestions could be offered because I have learned from following this forum, "Somebodies has tried everything!" Jim

I dont have your model but a heating duct is a heating duct, mine looks like the stuff that is used for a drier vent in the house, one of my next projects is to get some insolated duct from a AC man and replace all that cheap junk that was originally installed, as for the plumbing I would think that some insolating pipe wrap from Home depot would be the answer for the pipes from a freeze.

I don't RV in very cold weather, but any heat in the "water closet" would be welcome for me so I have no plans to move the vent. I do wish that floor vent was elevated a bit in the event of a plumbing problem, but one of these days I'll have to fix that.

I think jimcol explained the other reasonings just fine. It would be nice if the ducting were better but such is the light-weight, keep-it-cheap world of RVing.

Was thinking of relocating the heat vent in the wc on our 2011 2955. It only looks like its 2 to 3 inches in diameter, but it sounds like a 747 taking off and can turn the wc into a bake oven in about 15 minutes. Could leave the door open but the noise is unreal. Have to decide to point it somewhere else, or just close it off.
I do like the idea of replacing all of the "dryer" ducting with insulated ducting.

What we did was remove the plastic deflector that is on this heat vent and we cut a piece of aluminum screening and placed it on this hole and then snapped the deflecter back on. Not only does this keep things from falling down the heat duct but it also somehow muffled the "jet engine" sound considerably. We also put this screening on all of our other vents to keep debree from falling down them

If you follow other forums the major complaint of fulltimers is the rigs that don't have heat in the John. We do camp when it's cold and I like it warm in there when I get up in the night. We keep the rig about 58-60 degrees at night and it doesn't get too hot in there at that setting. Since I like to store whatever I want in the basement I not only didn't insulate the ducts down there I drilled three holes the size of a quarter in the ductwork to add extra heat to the basement. I was curious and so I questioned folks at two Escapee parks we were at this winter and our propane use was the same or better than the other folks there so we aren't missing anything.

I wonder if a person was to install a larger size duct with a controllable damper to control airflow if that would reduce the noise? I like having the throne room warm when I get up at night to use it.
