3400 RL Thermostat

The thermostat in our 2006 3400 RL is in the rear of the coach. Often when we travel we stop at rest areas for a short nap. In cold weather it is impossible to use the heater with the thermostat located in the rear unless you open the slides. I found that the t'stat is connected to the furnace via an 8 wire telephone cord so I bought an extension cord and a coupler. We remove the t'stat from the rear wall, move it up front and connect it through the 8 wire extension cord. It works perfectly. When we get back home I'm going to permanently install it above the tank/battery status panel.

Good idea, I think they locate the thermostats close to the a/c unit for cost reasons.

For the same reasons I installed a 2nd Thermostat in the hallway across from the switch panel. I just bought a cheap thermostat from my dealer. The furnace is right there so wiring it was a piece of cake. So now the original thermostat works for the A/C which is only used when slides are out. The furnace thermostat is in the hall way (also nice if it get colder at night than expected. Not as long as a walk to kick on the heat and climb back in bed until it warms up) so at night it regulates the temp in the bedroom better.

Just wondering, is the temperature sensor located in the thermostat or is it in the furnace and ac housing?

Good idea on the extension cord, CBTraveler. In the 7+ years I've been on this forum I don't recall ever seeing this suggestion.
