Running Air Conditioner with Honda 2000i generator

I want to isolate and run my air conditioner with my Honda 2000i Generator. I think I can do it if I first add a Hard Start Capacitor to the Air Conditioner compressor. Then I think I would need to figure out how to isolate the Air Conditioner circuits so that it could be operated outside of the regular system. I guess my solution there is to install a transfer switch and separate plug for the generator.
Has anyone tried to figure out how to run their A/C from their small genertor? Any input on this would be helpful. Thanks John

Not a good idea. The Honda 2000 will not handle it. It's been tried by many who found that it didn't work. Yes, the start up current for the AC is too much for the generator. Someone told me, "No problem, the AC doesn't draw THAT much operating current." That's true, however I tried it and found that it's not a good idea. The generator keeps dropping out because the load is too great.

John, You may want to go to yahoo.com and look under GROUPS - its on the left. Then type in honda generators. You will find much needed info regarding the Honda 2000. It won't run a 15,000 A/C but some have done it with a 13,500 if you start the fan only and then low cool. Its all on the honda forum.

My opinion....

I would also be concerned of the long term ramifications of brownouts while the generator tries to keep up the the A/C demand. Just because you hear the generator running and the A/C running doesn't mean either are truly happy.

I would think the cost of repairing or replacing either is well justified by purchasing a second EU2000 and the parallel cables and not worrying about it.
