Traffic Movers

Replaced front marker lights with midturn lights to get additional turn signals for those people that are too far forward to see your taillights and just seem to stay there. These are dual filament so they serve as marker lights and turn signals.

Tried to replace the center marker lights, but just no reasonable way to get an additional wire to the street side, and the curb side is too far back anyway.

Available at most truck stops. Surface mount so no holes bigger than the ones already there.

To keep them from coming on with the brake lights, I added a European converter from Husky hitch that converts 2 wire taillights to 3 wire separating turn signals from brake lights. No change to the factory taillights. Converter mounted next to the batteries and factory turn signal wires were within a few inches for connecting (T-Tap). All wiring was within the front compartments.

I did the same thing, but added the lights above the wheels. Ran the wiring up to the front storage and tapped into the wire harness. The only problem was that I got LED side markers and they are not bright enough.

I did the same as GregN, but I just tapped into the wiring harness on the street side where it ran along the from. Ran a wire to the other side under the belly. All covered up and looks good. The mistake I made was that I put a disconnect in because it was on a slide...I forgot I had a wiring loom at the other end of the slide. Now I get to go back and wire through the loom so I can forget about the disconnect. Not as smart as I thought I was.

Nice mod Brad,
I'll make that mod too.
Hope I can find a European converter up here were we live.
What brand did you use?

Nice job Brad, something I also have been intending to do. My intentions though, always seem to be outranked by other things.

Thanks Brad,

My local Ford dealer found me the same kind of converter thing made by Reese. (actually I found it on line and they will order one in for me).
Now, trying to find a side light that will work as a marker and turning light....

Kerry - Welcome to the Forum!

I always forget the in progress pictures. The wiring loom from the pin box runs down right next to the batteries and then into the belly, in a 1" black plastic split conduit. Just reach in the conduit by the batteries and find the green and red loose wires (left and right turn). Verify with a test light. T-Tap those wires with leads from the converter marked for left turn/stop and right turn/stop (T-Tap: connect to the factory wires, but let them continue to carry current to the factory tailights). The converter input also has a third wire for ground which I grounded with the battery cable ground on the frame right next to where you are working.

Output on the converter is left turn, right turn, and stop. The stop wire is not used and should be taped or protected from grounding. The left and right output wires go up to the frame in the front of the compartment, then straight out to the LP compartments where the forward marker lights are. Remove the 2-wire marker lights and replace with your new 3-wire midturn lights (ground, marker, turn).

Hope that helps,
Brad
