I got the chance to check out the generator this weekend and it did great. It is very quite and smooth running. I turned everything on and it handeled the load great. It puts out 58 amps and being the unit is wired for 50 I had a few amps to spare. It was like I was hooked up to shore power. I checked the voltage with a digital meter and it was where it was suppose to be. I can boondock in style now.

Very nice, we're going to add one to our Monty in December. We were looking at the 5500 this one is obviously a larger unit. I've not heard anything negative about the LP Onan, other than price but I think the positives outweigh the negative.

what does that baby weigh? I am thinking about a Honda 2000EU just to run a few things, and charge the batteries. Wouldn't that be enough to run the microwave, a few lights, and do anything you would want to do while boondocking? I would worry about putting that much weight on my Dodge 3500 longbox. I'm new to this and don't want too many things to think about yet. It will be difficult enough just pulling it, and not taking the AC off on a bridge or tree! ha ha..

cool pic mudchief is it installed in the front compartment and if so how did they run the exhaust my guess is underneath and how warm does it get while running in the compartment or do you leave the door down while running for cooling we are concidering the same gen. for our 3400

Montana Rog it weighs around 290 pounds. The size will depend on was you want to run. In my case I wanted to run anything I wanted to just like I can when hooked up to a 50 service.

Boat391 It is in the front compartment and the exhaust pipe goes down and to the drivers side. It is vented out the bottom of the compartment and you leave the door closed. I ran it about a hour in 77 degree weather and I did not notice any heat build up to be concerned about.

cool thanks for the info I was concerned about heat but see thats not a issue next question I have is fuel consumption but you'll have to run it a bit to get a good feel for that thanks again for your reply did you get it installed by your dealer? or did you buy it from a different source such as camping world?

I think if you were boondocking alot, it would be a good thing to have. I am a first time fulltimer, and probably stick to campgrounds for a while until I am comfortable with this whole fulltiming concept. I think I will miss my power tools and shop the most. Maybe someone will need help somewhere. I like to help people with their fix up problems. I have snuck my circle saw, level and tri-square in and also my electrician tools in the basement..maybe I will get lucky...with the tools I mean!

I was at a campground in Loveland, CO this summer and there was an obvious fulltimer in a Class A that was pulling a trailer. I walked by one morning and he had the back of the trailer open and he had a whole work shop set up in there, it was awesome!

Dsprik, The manual states 1.22 gph at 58 amps and .73 gph at 30 amps and .43 gph at no load.
I would think with only 1 air running and a few other things it would be around .5 gph. You can bet I am going to test it and I will let you know. Even at 30 amps that would be just under 6 gallons for 8 hours of running.

Thanks, Dennis. That's a beautiful generator, but I think that without an inverter, I will stay with my 3000ti Kipor. It uses 3.5 gals of gas in 12-15 hrs at 1/4 load - normal overnight power needs (w/o A/C) - that's ~$7.50 @ $2.15/gal.

Of course I have to lug this thing around and lock it up all the time. But while traveling and staying at Walmarts/Cracker Barrels/etc, I can keep my gen cable locked right in the bed of my pickup, where it normally rides anyway, and I just run it right where it sits - very convenient.
