warranty extended service contracts..yes or no??

We just received a letter from Curtis trailer here in Oregon .
the one year anniversary is soon approaching on our 2016 3790RD

they are asking if we want to get the EASYCARE extended service contract.

all thoughts are appreciated...

There will be those who say they wouldn't won't live without an ESP and those who say they are a waste of money. It's really up to you. Are you the kind of person who can take a little risk to save some money. If something breaks can you fix it. Do you put your money in the bank knowing very well you are going to lose value or do you put your money in the stock market. I put my money in the market and I'm ahead enough I could retire. I don't buy ESPs. I love risk.

There are lots of extended warranty companies out there. Some are better than others. Howard and Linda did an article on extended warranties on the RV.Dreams website. There also has been a bunch of discussions here on the MOC. One question to ask is what company your dealer likes to deal with. Unless you are a full-time, you probably will be dealing with Curtis - a good dealer.

Just like their truck, most folks like their warranty companies (unless they got one of the bad ones). Personally, I bought the Easycare plan with my trailer. It cost around $1,800 and my dealer has billed them over $12,000 so far. I also used a mobile repair guy in Phoenix and they covered that too. Just be sure someone calls *BEFORE* they start work to get approval!! You do have to understand that I have had more than a couple of problems. The only thing they ever denied was replacement of a slide seal that turned to mush even though the adjoining ones were fine. Wear and tear items are not covered by anyone that I know of.

Put me in the Yes group as i would never be without it,mine is from Cornerstone,I guess you just have to ask yourself "Do Ya Feel Lucky???" My Fridge alone is $3500.00 if it goes out and the Warranty only added a few bucks to my RV Payment a Month,on my last 2012 Monty I never used it and got a Pro-Rated refund Check for $1800.00 when I traded in for my 2015 So no brainer for me

Check all of Your appliance warranties. Most have a two year term and the extended warranty won't help pay until the two years have expired. I had Good Sams ESP and they wouldn't help with my out of pocket cost.
Dometic furnished a new cooling unit and five hours repair on our 1350 Fridge, but their Tech charged 600.00 bucks extra for two service trips and extra hours. On the plus side the Tech did an excellent repair.

Even on our old unit I had the ESP plan. I got it from Good Sams and on the new unit a 2013 we purchased at the dealer we got the extended warranty for an extra 7 years. We've had numerous repairs done and have only paid for one and that was MY fault because I turned to sharp in a gas station and caught a steel pipe filled with concrete! That was my error and I paid for it. The insurance covered most of it but I still had the deductible to pay. We won't live without ESP even though I do some of the repairs and etc myself but IF anything big go out it is covered by the ESP plan.

We have had ESP on both our Montana's RV Shield,Good Sam ESP and now Cornerstone.. Just the cost of replaced failed holding tanks more than paid for the premiums.

Have not had EasyCare on my Monte, but did have it on a previous Ford F350 and Expedition. The few times I used it they were great in taking care of repair work that fell under the plan, never refusing any repair costs. EasyCare is a good company in my opinion if you want an extended service plan. I ended up just about breaking even on what I paid for the plan vs what they paid for repairs as I had no major failures.

Ours paid for a cooling unit on our Norcold 1210 after the manufacture warranty had expired. So yes we have it.

X2 on Cornerstone. With the auto-level, bigger frig, and some other features on our 2014 there just seemed like more expensive items that could go wrong. Just shop around and get a good price for one that works best for you. I like the ones that will refund unused time if you sell or trade your unit early.

This issue comes up a lot. I would say if you use your rv a lot or you are full timing it is probably a good thing. Make sure the extended warranty company you go with is who you will be dealing with and they did not sell your warranty to a second party. Read all the wording with care. Ask if the repair parts will be original or will they use generic or refurbished and make sure it is posted in the contract. Check out time limits that may be in the contract. Read the contract with care. Remember these contracts are not only to protect you but also to protect the warranty company. This is from my experience.

I had an ESP for 7 years, bought when I first purchased my Big Sky. I do not remember the company or the initial cost, but it was reasonable and has paid for itself over the years. After reading this thread the other day I got to thinking perhaps I should get a new one, so I went on Good Sam's site. I was floored with the price. Over $1500 a year. I don't think my first 7 years was much over $3000 total. I know high priced items can easily be more than that, but an extra $250 a month is tough to come up with these days!

Well, count me as a skeptic. I consider extended warrantes to be just an extra profit point for the dealer. I have heard horror stories, and success stories, so I guess you'll have to make the final decision, since I have no experience with them. My advice would be to research any warranty service with care.

The Consumer reports are pretty much on cars and appliances not much on RV's. Rv's have a higher probability of failure.

I watched a number of YouTube videos regarding this topic as I am also a new owner. So far Good Sam and Wholesale Warranties are the two that I have looked at the most. On one segment, the owner of Wholesale was giving a lecture at a rally and when asked what the better option was pertaining to the 7 year warranty at time of sale, he stated that waiting until the 11th month after and then buying the 7 year warranty was more effective because the dealer warranty covers everything the first year so that 7th year is really 6 years. Since your appliance warranty clock is ticking as well, waiting until the 11th month gives you the very real benefit of that extra year of coverage. The down side he related is that waiting until the 11th month will cost you more for the policy because the dealer year warranty is prorated into the overall cost. I appreciate the honesty that he displayed as to my experience most warranty sellers try to lock you in as soon as they can convince you so you don't buy from someone else, "bird in the hand/two in the bush". Has anyone had any first hand experience with Wholesale Warranties Viking Coverage?

We have had had plenty of 'horror' stories here. Rich could write a book for you but you here about the ones they broke not the campers no one had a problem with. I've had campers for 25+ years and never would have used an ESP. As for Consumer Reports let them test anything but campers and automobiles.
