2022 3121RL hitch recommendation

I just ordered a 2022 3121RL and I have a 2021 GMC 3500 with the standard bed. Any recommendations for best hitch? The dealer said to look at a Reese goose box, but curious if I don’t go that route is a slider hitch required?

If you have a 6 or 6 1/2 foot bed get a slider for safety reasons. Safety for your truck rear glass. You can get by without a slider but if you get in a bind with your truck front end higher than the camper and turn short the camper can hit your truck.

Daniel,
We have a 2021, 3121RL that I pull a Reese Goose Box on a F350 Long Bed. I really like this hitch because when we get home I can remove the ball and safety chain brackets and the truck bed is completely usable for my projects. The negative, as with any goose type hookup, the 5er needs to be directly over the ball before lowering the rig onto the ball. On our first several trips, I was getting a lot of directional guidance help from friendly RV folks that were more confusing than help. I learned how to align my truck to the rig and now, I "hook up", without help, in less than 5 minutes, without any cameras.

The positive of a traditional 5er hitch is is that if off a little, the hitch will guide the trailer to the sweet spot.

We've had our rig 10 months and have already traveled over 10K miles. We are not full timers. Our 3121RL has the Super Solar & Legacy packages. We absolutely love our Montana.

Good Luck

Hitch Help

I don't know if you have a long bed or short bed truck, but we pull a 2020 Montana 3121RL with a 2019 F-350 6.7L 4x4x short bed pickup. I had an old Husky hitch and the ride was rough and jerky all the time. Went with a new 18K BW Patriot slider. I needed the slider due to the short bed truck. Just makes me feel better while turning sharply. The BW rides so much better and no jerking action going on now.
Hope you enjoy your new rig, we love ours and just enough room for the two of us, but still easy to park!! Enjoy and be safe out there!!!!

Thanks everyone. We do have the “shorter” of the two bed options - which is just over six and a half feet long - it looks like most of you have gone with a slider - so probably the route we will also go just for peace of mind. If anyone has used a goose box instead of a slider hitch with a 6.5 foot bed would be curious to hear your impressions

We are hoping to be able to pick it up around the beginning of December but are still waiting for an exact build week.

I suggest the Pullrite 20k Superglide. Has a great turning radius and selfs adjust while turning or backing up. it will keep the cab of your truck away from your new rig. not to mention the ride its so much smoother then other brands

I would also say pullrite never had an issue with mine and love not having to get out of truck and pull some handle to let it slide great hitch

Consider a slider hitch UNLESS you are very careful when alley docking. I did not have one for many years and never had an incident even after my manual slider seized in the tow position. There are many other slicer hitch manufacturers to choose from.

I find 3 benefits to the Andersen.

Light weight, the wife can put it in or take it out by herself if needed.
Quick install and removal, under 5 minutes.
I cant forget to put the jacks down and pull out from under it.

We use Andersen Ultimate hitch in 2015 GMC 6 1/2'box pulling 2018 model 3120. No issues in 20,000 miles.

The right hitch

There are slot of good hitch’s out there, I have a 2015 Chevy 3500 HD and a 3015 3610 RL which is the predecessor to your model. I have a 18 k B&W hitch which works great. Hope this helps

I have 2020 Dodge Ram 3500 short box and a 2019 3121RL. I utilize the 24k pullrite slider hitch and absolutely love it. However, the two disadvantages are: #1 When using a pullrite slider hitch you must instal/matel the appropriate capture plate on your trailer pin box for hookup. The plates run somewhere in the area of $150 and install in a few minutes with a couple wrenches. This will mate your hitch to the pinbox. I have zero chucking or banging and it works very well with my short box. #2 The hitch mounts to my factory puck system and is locked in very easily with four pins that turn and lock Hitch down but it is extremely heavy (275lbs) and takes two guys to lift it out of truck when I want to use the bed.

Have the B&W companion. Love this hitch. Hooking up is simple and fool proof. When you are hooked in, the handle will close, put in the in pin lock and your ready to go. No need for the pull test. Once those jaws are closed, and the pin inserted, it is locked in.

You don't need a slider. The Reese Goosebox is what I'm going to. You won't have a bulky 5th wheel hitch in your bed, it hooks right up to your gooseneck ball, and most of all, your back will surely appreciate it. I wish I would have gone that route, right from the start.

Do you currently use the Reese Goosebox? I have heard conflicting reports that the Reese goosebox either does or doesn’t allow enough space to prevent any collision between the truck and trailer.

I imagine the 3560 vs the 3121 will be slightly different. But just as a baseline does the Reese goose box extend past the fron of your trailer further than the standard kingpin did?

Several people mentioned the Andersen ultimate hitch. A few questions for you guys

1- how much of your bed does the footprint take up? Looks to be fairly large
2- since it is so much lighter than a standard hitch any concerns with durability (love that it is lighter for ease of taking it in and out - but not sure what the trade off is for shedding so much weight)
3- any issues at all with potential truck contact with the trailer or does it keep it far enough behind to not worry about it.
