Volunteers

We are getting closer, soooo maybe I should fill in some of the blanks. We are going to have a very busy seventh. Any and all who can get to the fairgrounds early on the seventh (or earlier then the seventh) will be very much appreciated. We aren't going to have any specific shifts or work times. Things always come up that require our attention so all I ask is if you can help out please come to the main parking lot. Those that are renting a cart can bring it. For those that aren't, we will have a few carts to use on the 7th - 9th. It never hurts to bring a more comfortable chair to sit in. We should have shade. Those with carts usually use those for both. We can divvy up the jobs when people come to the parking lot. We will attempt to move people around so as to experience all the various functions. But.. if you like doing a certain thing, why change.

There are three main jobs. Those that sit or stand by the gate to wave people into the correct entrance. Lots of fun but no playing strip spotting.

The greeters hang out in the middle of the parking lot to sign people in, answer basic questions and find a parker to escort the rig in.

The escorts take the rigs to their site, help park in whatever way is required, and answer any questions they can. The escorts must ensure that the rigs are parked in their designated spot. The sites will be marked with spray paint which takes most of the pressure off of the escorts. The rigs must be in their area. Sometimes there is some gray area and we will need to escalate to get an answer. Remember if one person early on parks wrong, it could lead to multiple movements.

I will brief and give tours to all who come down to help. At least until someone else can do it.

We will have maps and lists and markers and vests and cones and jokes and clipboards and whatever else we need. Thanks for helping out. And if you can spare a couple of hours, please come down to the parking lot.

We won’t know until closer to the date if we can get there before the seventh. If so will there be a campsite available On the 6th and or 5th/6th?

Anything earlier then the seventh must be arranged through the Elkhart Cty Fairground. It may, if available, be different than the site you will be assigned for the rally.

Thanks. We may not have anything to do on the eighth and ninth, just kidding.

Parking staff early arrivals

Grand Design is having their rally the week prior to ours. They are not required to be out until the sixth. There is also the need for the fairgrounds to do their thing of cleaning and cutting, etc. So...The wagon masters have told me that they may be able to get a few volunteers in early, like the fifth or sixth. Cost is 30 dollars a night. My bet is that you will probably have to move the morning of the seventh to get to your rally site. If any one is interested in an early arrival, let me know and I will see what we can work out. I won't be arriving until the sixth. The wagon masters (Ron Marlin, Richard Dube) should be able to provide guidance for those that choose to get in early. With any luck their other responsibilities will evaporate and I can go into early retirement.

Jim, check with Richard Dube, he's got the connections. I had previously called the fairgrounds and they said I was good. I won't really know until I get there. Have you talked to Ron Marlin about the park maps? Glad you're coming early.

We are attending our first rally and volunteered to be "Parking Professionals". Will golf carts be provided for the PP to use during their shift(s)?

My wife recently had knee replacement surgery, I have been told I need the same surgery, so we plan to rent a golf cart for use during the Rally. Any ideas when the rental signup will be available?

Joey, A golf cart will definitely save you some walking. We will have a few carts provided by the Rally to use for parking purposes. There should be a post coming out soon for the golf cart sign up. Just keep watching for it. You must sign up for a cart to get one. I don't think they have any spares once they put in the order.
