Traveling with a bird

Hi, We will be travelling with our Senegal Parrot this summer-6-8 weeks. We have taken her out in the car before, and once in the truck, but not over an extended period. She is a bit skidish at new things. A friend suggested making a masquito netting cover for her cage while she is outside with us. Does anyone have any other advice for us? ie. water, illness on the road, reponding to people and children coming up to her, etc.
