U Bolt Torque
Having the rear axle replaced on our Monte and want to know if I will need to check the torque on the U Bolt nuts before heading out for our snowbird adventure? If so, what is the torque on these nuts suppose to be and do I need to check the torque on them like I need to do on the wheels at the 25, 50, 100 mile traveling? Weight off the wheels or axles for torquing?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

You want the weight on the wheels and springs when you torque. Montana torques them when the install the axles. Unfortunately, the rig is upside down at that time and the weight of the coach is missing. Pretty every RV at a dealers lots has under torqued U bolts.
I am looking for the spec. I seem to remember something like 60 or 70 ft./lb. Unlike the wheels, it is a one and done task. Hopefully you have someone replacing the axle that knows this stuff.

Yes, one and done, but I always throw the torque wrench on them when I grease the wheel bearings. I’m right there and it’s peace of mind.

Rondo: The chart posted by MandK (above) is the answer. I believe the U bolts are 1/2 - 20 with hex nuts and the recommended torque is 45-70 ft. lbs. Big range! I would be up at 60 or so just for grins.

The Dexter Axle service manual is in the files section.
Torque values are on page 67 (picture above).

Thanks gang! When I get the Monte back from the dealer I'll make sure the torque on the U bolts is setting between 60 and 65 and that should do me. I'll check them when I check the lug nut torque after I get it back home and in the shed. Easier to crawl under it on the concrete than out on the road somewhere on the cold dirt! LOL Take care all and have a good winter!

Don't forget to torque the Shackle nuts.
50 ft lbs
Ref Lippert

It's in the Lippert NOW app.
After finding a broken leaf spring hanger on our departure day in Moab Utah, I now do an "arrival" inspection on the suspension.
I also check the torque regularly on a road trip.
