Hey Man,

It all depends on where we are going and what we are doing. I have done as much as 650 to 700 miles in a day but was trying to get back home for the birth of my grandson.

When we are our traveling the world, we can and I have done as little as 50 mile's and as much as 500 mile's.

To give another example, I will be going to Sturgis SD for the bike rally in August. Will be leaving from home going straight there. I will try to so 550 to 600 mile's a day. On the way home we will take our time and stop along the way and maybe do 200 to 300 miles a day if we have to.

I guess that it is in where your going and what your doing that set's up the day for the miles your going to do behind the wheel.

I have a dog that needs to stop and a wife that can't sit very long (back issues), so we travel 250-300 miles. 5-7 hours with frequent stops.

Fun question and have enjoyed the variety of responses. On the subject of distance, we use 300 miles as a planning "yardstick." Under normal road/climate conditions that is an easy driving day...leaving point A mid-morning and arriving point B mid-afternoon. That said, we enjoy the occasional 150-mile day, but have also stretched to 450 miles when it was necessary.

Regarding speed, we spend a lot of time in the West where speed limits of 80 mph (or more) are not uncommon. If the limit is 65 or above we hang around 65 and are conservative around curves. In California the state-wide max for towing is 55. We honor that (mostly). All other speed situations based on conditions and a strong desire to live!

We live in Florida, so when we head to our favorite places, the West, we will typically do 400-500 miles the first day to get out of Florida, but after that it’s typically 300-350 miles a day. We rarely get on the road before 9-10 am and usually sometime around 3-4 pm my wife will ask me how much longer I want to drive and she will start looking for a campground or whatever that is somewhere around my preferred stop. We are retired, though so do not tend to be in a big hurry. I typically tow around 62-65 mph on the interstates and stay in the right lane.

My target is 350 miles or less. Once in a great while we end up with a 400 mile day. When that happens, I plan the next day to be a down day.

When we first retired at age 55, I had no problem pulling our 36’ 16.5k# Mobil suites 70-75 mph for 8-10 hours a day several days in a row. I wanted to get where I wanted to be! Several years ago and a couple different traveling Rvs later, I am content driving 65 in a 70 mph zone and driving a max of 300 miles per day. Trying to not be on the road more than 6 hours total. We carry a total of about 70 gallons of fuel and my bladder doesn’t last as long as the fuel does.

When I was younger (much younger, like 50), I would drive 400-500 mi per day to get to my destination. that was very tiring.

Now I'm 75 and plan for 200 mi a day, give or take, and drive a little slower, maybe 55-60 on the secondary highways that we like, or 60-65 on the interstates. Whatever.

We usually relax and take our time in the morning and have a relaxing drive to our next campsite, usually reserved, and in time to set up and relax with a HH drink before dinner. It is so much more relaxing and less tiring - did i say less stressful?

Jester, I usually start out going 65mph in a 70mph zone. But, I get crowed by other vehicles and end up going 70 to 75mph. On long destinations I try to plan on 6 or 7 hrs. including stops. Sometimes, more rarely now than when I was younger, I would travel for 14 or so hours. Not so much now days. LOL

A short day is sometimes 30 miles. A long day for example is from Red Rock State Park outside Gallup NM, to 50 miles east of Memphis Tn. All depends on what has to happen.

200 to 250 miles with 300 max. Try to get on the road by 8 AM and generally parked by 1 or 2 PM, 65 MPH max.

Speed is alway a factor. I try to stay 3 miles under the speed limit when possible. Som time I’ll need to let the Cummins run on the down hill just to stay at a reasonable speed to climb the next hill.
Anyone have any suggestions on speed.

When we cam up we took three days from GA as opposed to the normal 4.

Early in my retirement before I turned 60 I drove a truck for a friends business and would make a round trip to Lancaster, PA, about 650 mi. in 14 hours. Ha, no more. 250 is now my target. I set the cruise at 67 and stop to stretch about every 1.5 to 2 hours. The sciatica lets me know when it's time.

Do you do I95 all the way, or I81/I88? That northern part of 81 and half of 88 was pretty bumpy this year.
