Camping clubs

Are discount camping clubs like passport really worth it and which ones are best for the money?

I definitely get my money out of Passport America. I don't usually camp weekends or summers.

We have Good Sam and KOA. Both give us value for different reasons. Good Sam gives 10% at any participating parks, which we seldom use, but we also get discount at the CW/Gander store and discounts at certain fuel stations. KOA we use for overnight stops when travelling. Their discounts are OK, but points accumulate and you will get free nights here and there depending on use. Membership for both is minimal each year.
We also have a GA State Parks membership, which is free to join. It gives us a free night based on accumulated points as well. I've had it for about 6 years now and have gotten money back at several trips. Since we live in FL and travel north regularly, it gives us value. If you are not on the east coast, it may not be worth it, but many other states have a rewards program too. Don't overlook these as it is usually free and the value comes with frequent use.

We have three - Good Sam, Passport America and Escapees. Good Sam get’s you 10% off at most CG’s. Passport, which we like to use while we’re traveling, gets you 50% off. Escapee’s get 10-15% off plus they have some nice member owned campgrounds for longer stays. The KOA’s are usually nice, but for long trips like we take (even with the discount) are just too expensive. They are all slightly different in price, so figure if you will get your money’s worth. If you pay $40 for a membership and your average campground costs $40, you need to stay 10 nights to get to break even. We find with PA we usually break even in 2 nights. We have been averaging about 150 nights a year in our Montana, so it’s a no brainer. We normally stay at a KOA once or twice a year. Not to offend KOA lovers, but we usually find better value elsewhere. That is just our experience. Your mileage may vary.
