What was your 1st camper?

Mine was a 1971 VW camper van. We only had one daughter at the time. But I think I made 3 more daughters from that van. LOL

Camper shell over the pickup bed with plywood platform in bed and 2"foam pad over the plywood and sleeping bags. Charcoal grill, cooler and other supplies under the platform. Slide rear window open if we needed A/C but seldom used it! Then camp the pop-up camper that kept loosing the wheels and breaking rising cables. Then a 2004 Montana 2980 and now the 2013 3582! Quite a difference between the pickup to the 3582!

2004 Puma 30 ft. with one slide. Bumper pull TT. Then on to the Montana's. Prior to the Puma were many years of tent camping!

Cots under the stars beside any creek we could find that might have fish in it from the time I was so young I can't remember when we did not. Not even a tent.

Actually my first is the one we have. Grew up camping in the truest sense. Finally got a tent when I was a teenager. Tent camped some in my early 20's. Borrowed a PUP once in early married life with two small kids. That sort of tweeked the interest. But then pretty much abandoned it until we bought the '07 Monte new.

We bought a used 1968 16-foot Chinook trailer in 1969. Towed it all over the West Coast for about five years.

A renovated school bus tha my uncle sold to my dad in 1970. The first year we went from Boston to the Grand Canyon and back in two weeks. The only complaint my siblings and I had was that it was still school bus yellow. The next summer dad had spray painted it light metallic blue on the bottom half and white on the top half. We went out west for another two weeks and had a ball!

Camped with and without a tent until I rigged a 1968 Ford pickup with two of the old summer camp bunk bed wire spring sets with summer camp mattresses. Storage underneath, sleep on top. Had some great times in that truck. Probably couldn't bend enough to get in it now.

Sleeping bags right on the ground in late 50's and early 60's. Had a tent but, that was mom and dad's! Us 3 boys were happier than tick on a hound dog! Then, life was happening and Gail and I bought our first RV in May of 2004. A 28 foot Outback. We were in tall cotton!!

I grew up with my folks renting pop-ups for a few years. Dad finally bought a bran new Nimrod Seventy pop-up and we took it out to the west coast and back, seeing most of the sights in between. I was 15 then and didn't get much out of it, save for checking out the girls that were unfortunate enough to be camping with their parents also. Many years of tenting on my own followed. I bought my first camper, a 1998 Coleman Mesa pop-up in '98 after my daughter was born.

A used Cox pop-up with a full canvas top. Got it back in the 80s. Then two more pop-ups followed by three 5ers.

My brothers Galaxy 6 Starcraft 1972 model. We still have it. It has always been kept inside and is still like new. The first one I bought was a 24 foot 5 er.

Camping with the folks in a Army tent in the 50's. Then better tents in the 60's. Got married and had a '72 Chevy 3/4T with a ElDorado slide in camper. All over the west with it.

First 5th in early 90's and as they say, the rest is history.

With 6 kids we had to go with the big tent and of course our station wagon. Would have love to have a TT but couldn't afford it.

74 GMC cargo van converted with insulation and paneling, bed across the back and lots of shag carpet, so cool it was.
