Our 2009 Big Sky came with a Toshiba 32AV502U TV in the living room. While we like the picture, we were annoyed that the audio didn't sync up with the video - it was about 100 ms delayed. We really noticed the problem when we were both watching the same channel on both the Toshiba and the TV in the bedroom - there would be an annoying echo because the Toshiba wasn't in sync.
If you call Toshiba, they will send out a USB stick with the proper firmware on it and instructions on how to update the firmware - the instructions
don't work. The insructions from the Web don't work and the firmware is old.
I obtained the firmware that fixes the aforementioned problem and then figured out how to hack into the TV to force a firmware update (the CSR was no help).
For those who want to do this, proceed at your own risk, but for me it was a simple process:
Obtain firmware version STW32THAD103_20090202.ecc and STW32THAD-IPS32.ecc either from Toshiba or you can email me for it. Put it on a USB stick in the root directory. The USB stick that I received from Toshiba has more files on it, presumably for different models, but if you want the firmware from me, I will provide all files as originally placed on the USB stick.
Code:
1. Turn the TV on.
2. Plug the USB stick into the upgrade port on the back of the TV (next to the HDMI inputs)
3. Enter Factory Service Mode by hitting Left, Exit, Enter on your remote. You may have to do this a few times before you see
the FSM box in the upper left corner of the screen.
4. Scroll down to USB F/W Upgrade and hit Enter.
5. Make sure that you have Start highlighted by scrolling up and down. Once Start is highlighted, hit Enter on the remote. Do not update the
boot code - leave as No.
Do not turn off power.
Once the Firmware has been updated, the TV will reboot and voila - you're in business.
6. Remove the USB stick from the TV.
Enjoy,
