Expressway 77 thru Dallas
From Lake Superior to the RGV Good Sam takes me South on I-35 and then on 4 lane roads from MO to TX and picks up 77 which appears to go through downtown Dallas. Any comments on this route as it will pick up I-35 South of Dallas so I could continue on I-35 through MO and OK and West of Dallas which would add some miles, but would avoid going through Dallas. I have traveled through Chicago on I-290 a number of times traveling in urban area would not be a new experience. Thanks for the advice.

I have come from Oklahoma right thru Dallas on that stretch. If you hit it between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, you can drive right on through at freeway speed. If you hit the work traffic, that's another matter.

77 through Dallas? Ain't no way I'd do that pulling a fifth wheel. One of our neighbors came in from OK, and he came down I35W from Denton. I would a lot rather do Fort Worth than Dallas anytime. You hit that north side of Dallas at the wrong time and you can be there a long time. Just my opinion.

If I were pulling down I-35 (77) I would branch off at Denton and take I-35W through Fort Worth instead of I-35E through Dallas.
You did not say what your final destination was. There is a westward route that would take you about 50 miles round-a-bout. U.S. 380W out of Denton to U.S. 281, South of Jackboro.
OR U.S. 380 to FM-51 South of Decatur, TX (U.S. 287S for 1.5 miles to Hit FM-51S.) In Weatherford, TX, pick up SR-171S. In Cleburne, TX pick up US 67N for 10 miles and then you will hit 35W (south) and be on your way.
You will still have about 20 miles of I-35 loop around San Antonio to consider. Try making that during non-work travel times for the locals, or 1100-1300 (lunch-siesta)

I always experience a lot of truck traffic on US 380 during the day and a lot of Dallas traffic on the weekends---

Thanks everybody. We will be heading to Mission, TX so based on your advise and RV.net will take 35 all the way using 35W and 281. Appears if we hit it right going through Dallas would be a breeze, but knowing my luck I would hit it during rush hour and having done Chicago on 294 & 290 during rush hour don't need the stress. Have a safe winter.
