Decal removal
Awhile back there was numerous discussions on replacement of the front decal. I was trying to find the info as to what was used to remove the left over adhesive once the decal was removed by the heat gun. Can someone assist. Also looking for instruction or suggestion on putting the new decals back. I have now removed the Montana name but have residual adhesive still there.

Thats the hardist part I used Goo Done in the spray can it is expensive.

The goo-gone is what I used also. If you can see the difference in the cap (shinier where the old decals were) then the placement will be easier. I used masking tape to get them in the correct position, marked the edges with a pencil, then started in the middle and worked one way then the other. It worked well.

Charlie does the lacquer thinner attack the pvc cap or the clear coat from the factory (Gel coat)

I also used reducer to clean mine [paint thinner]. worked great and I used the same prosess that Bingo did to reinstall the new ones also worked great!!

When I replaced my front cap decals about 2 years ago, there were instructions with the decals on how to prepare the surface--remove all the old adhesive. I followed the instructions and it all worked out--unfortunately I don't recall the specific removal solutions--acetone was one and that was followed by another one for final prep. Check out the Burlington Graphics website for instructions--they should be there.

Thanks for all the info. After I read your comment Tim I checked out the box that the decals came in and sure enough the instructions were in the box from BGS (seniors moment). Lacquer thinner or citrus cleaner and then use isopropyl alcohol prior to application. Someone also mentioned that if I keep the area damp on application it allows for the decal to be shifted around while applying. I will try this coming week and let the group know how it turned out.

Good info on prep in previous posts ... if you've never done large decal replacement before, do not remove the entire backing from the decal all at once. Also like mentioned above, use an old spray bottle with water and only a couple of drops of dishwashing soap. This enables you to be able to adjust the position of the decals. Always work from the center of the decal out as far as squeeging out the water and air bubbles. On a large decal, I usually use painters tape or similar and position the decal in place after surface prep. I then place a couple of extra strips near the middle of the decal to hold that specific area in place. I then roll back about half the decal and remove the backing from that half ... wet the area, then apply the decal working center out. Repeat for the remaining half. If you try and place say the entire Montana logo in one fell swoop, I'll gurantee you'll have issues with the application. One last pointer, it there ends up being several small bubbles you can't squeegy out, a sharp needle prick will help ... or since vinyl "breaths" the small air bubbles will disappear on their own in a few days.

I had some model boats that I built & applied decals to them. But, I Clear coated them too. After 10 years & in water, they look like new.
Makes me wonder, if we would clear coat the Montana decals, they might stay on forever??
Just a thought...something has to happen...you would think Keystone would investigate this.
Yes, I have peeling decals also, dealer called Keystone & got approval for replacements on my rig. Just the right side..only 4 decals. It seems to happen to the decals that are facing the sun most of the time. The front was replaced last year by Keystone. The dealer has helped me with all situations.

I Bet that the vinyl has a laminate on them now. Diesel, you hit the install & prep dead on. You could get a job wrapping vehicles!
