We have arrived at the yogi bear campground in Gardiner NY. The metro north commuter train goes into Manhatten form nearby Poughkeepsie. We plan to ride the rails 2 or 3 times over the next week and drive to West Point as well.

Any MOCers in the area?

BTW we met fellow MOCers Frank and Sandy from MA in our campground in Brattlesboro. Great folks. I can't wait to get to a rally to meet more members.

YES!!! We are located in Wappingers Falls, NY. Gardiner Campground is bit high in $$, sits on the Walkill River and has those extra's for kids etc. Trips to NYC via Metro North are nice as you get dropped off at Grand Central Station right in Downtown Manhattan. Trying to get on one during the week is not fun as the lots fill quickly in early morning due to large volume of commuters. This area has 3 primary stations; Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon...I prefer the New Hamburg station as its "small town" atmosphere but less opportunity for parking.
You can also go to;
Dining about 40 minutes south...

Dining about 15 minutes north...(we favor Bacchus as our daughter is waitress there)

Another interesting place just West of New Paltz

Like to hike? Again, just west of New Paltz

Flying interest you?...

Need any RV parts?...about 30 minutes north on Thruway

I'm sure I forgot many more places, but just ask I can try to provide more input or if you need anything post or PM me. Welcome!

Thanks Chuck for the great info!

We have negotiated the commuter trains, subways and one ferry system to enjoy 1 night and 3 days in NYC (you do the math, but it is a trick question: hint: I have newphews on manhattan island).

I chose the camground due to closeness to a rail station with overnight parking. I tried to get into Liberty Marina but they were booked with caravans/tour groups.

Again, thanks for the info.
