TST507 phantom alarms - Montana Owners Club

I have a TST507 tire monitoring system - first trip! I have experienced two “ phantom alarms” on the road. Alarm went off and showed something like “371 degrees” on a tire. I silenced the alarm, even turned it off and let it reboot after the first alarm. Anyway - I assume this is normal from time to time…maybe crossed up signals from a passing 18 wheeler. Anyway - is this normal? It does cause the heart rate to increase until I figured out it was a bogus alarm.

I have the 507's and have not experienced anything like that in 8000 miles with them. Are you using the repeater for a stronger signal?

I have a TST507 with a repeater and have experienced a High Temp alarm on a wheel from out of nowhere. Mine went to from a normal 90+ to 278 degrees almost instantly. Once my heart started beating again, I turned it off/on, saw normal temps and went off to change my shorts.

I called TST and they did say it happens. If you have an atomic clock in your rig and it is powered on, apparently the update signal is the same freq as the sensors and may cause an invalid (their temp sensor will not go that high) alarm. It supposedly is documented in their manual but I have not verified it. The second time it occurred I was much less concerned.

We've had out 507 for a long time, and have occasionally had the alarm go off for numbers in the 500 range, and one place in Quartzsite it would do the same thing every time. Our display/receiver was the old black and white model. At last year's western rally in Couer d'Alene, there was a rep from TST, and I told him what we were experiencing, and he said the newer color display/receiver had a more sophisticated electronic package and likely would prevent these false alarms, so I purchased the new display, and so far, no false alarms. The real test will be in January when we make the turn in Quartzsite where we always got the false alarm. I guess what happens is, you get a signal in the proper frequency that triggers the false alarm, from where, who knows, but it does, so hopefully this fixes the problem. I don't think there really is anything wrong with the TST, but it's just susceptible to these bad signals.

TST older units need a firmware update to fix the high temps phantom alarms when you are around other users. I only experienced them at truck stops and campgrounds. My choices were to sent the old display back to TST for a fee firmware update or just buy a new color display which has much better viability. I chose the new unit.

I have a signal booster in the front compartment. I also have atomic clock sensors hanging in each propane compartment. Oh well…thanks for the info. I will just deal with it.

Just to clarify, my TST is brand new as of July and has the new color screen. So it definitely is not a problem with just the older pieces parts.

May not be your problem since this is your first trip, but I had that on 2 tires recently, changed the batteries in the sensor and all OK now. Mine are about 2 years old though. I have been getting "Tire Pressure Sensor Fault" errors on the truck lately also. It seems to appear in certain areas that I drive and does eventually reset itself. I think something is interfering with the signal from the Ford built in TPMS.

On your truck, you are very close to needing to replace the wheel sensors because the batteries in them are only good for around 7 to 8 years. I had to have all of ours replaced a couple years ago.
