You have two weights that make up that 15500. The true dual axle weights and your pin weight.
The next question is how much "cushion" do you want on your axle weights.
Me I would run 7K axles at a minimum and possibly 8K each. Besides the axles you also need to look at the weight capability of the springs that support the Axle.
Good question.

You probably have 7,000 lb axles (3,500lbs/tire & wheel). I have a Monty with a GTWR of 14,040 and it only has 6,000 lb axles or 12,000 lbs at the wheels and the remaining 2,040 at the pin. The newer models are lingering over 15,000 to 15,500 lbs and are getting the beefier axles (or I hope they do).
If you can, check the Tire & Loading label on the driver's side, near the front of the trailer. The 6,000lbs axles are mentioned there on mine. Hopefully yours mentions the same information.
I believe for either 6,000 or 7,000 lbs axles they would have the proper spring sets from the factory (they would be different). Like H John Kohl says if you decide to get upgraded axles, make sure you get the corresponding spring sets. Then you may need to get different wheels and tires to support the new axles and springs.

I am not sure what you are asking.. I assume the 3400 you have has axles on it. Be that the case and the GVWR is 15,500lbs they are 7,000Lbs axles.

Don't really understand your question...the axles that are on it are probably the ones Keystone recommends. As noted above, the max weight of the RV will exceed the weight capacity of the axles because of the weight on the pin...normally around 20%.

Hi
Our 3665RE has a gross vehicle weight rating of 15,905 lbs. The axels have a gross axel rating of 6,750 lbs.
We had the unit on a truck frame machine last month and found the axels are doing ok. The brakes are quite lacking and if the axel manufacturer had a disk break option for these axels I would install it. Unfortunately they don’t.
The heaviest I have weighed at is trailer only 15,020 with and axel weight of 5,340 lbs each and the landing gear or front legs weighed 4380. (This is not a pin weight). The pin is located several feet in front of the landing gear. So when hooked to the truck the axel weight goes up to 6,020 lbs. each. This leaves me with a 730 lb. margin for each axel.

The 3400's built from about December 2006 until now have 7,000 lb axles. Prior to that they used 6,000 lb axles. Ours was built 3 months before the changeover and had the 6k axles. We run heavy and had problems tearing up tires due to axle misalignment so changed to the 7k axles. No more problems. That was about 3 years ago we made the change.
