Hydraulic Pump Circuit Breaker
I'm finally getting around to replacing the 50 amp breaker on the hydraulic pump with an 80 amp. I'm starting to get skipping and stopping as so many have seen with the under sized breaker. My question is this...I found a CB185-80 on Amazon for $68.22. They also have a CB285-80 for $27.98. Everything I'm reading says they are interchangeable. I don't mean to be cheap, but does anyone know of a reason to pay double for the CB185-80?
Here are the two links...

Thanks for any advice or opinions.

Thanks, dieselguy. I actually read that page and they say its drop in replacement. Just wondering if that's true. Are there any differences other than price?

The specs show the 285 is equal to or better than the 185 in every category. Buy the 285.

Thanks, BB_TX. I'll order today. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I was missing.

Also when you upgrade the OEM 50 amp breaker to 80 amp you will most likely need to replace the existing terminal ends to compensate for the larger threaded post on the amp 80 breaker... you are doing a very worthwhile and wise upgrade to the hyd pump motor dual polarity solenoid by upgrading the OEM breaker

You don't actually have to replace the 50A breaker. Just put the Hydraulic system on its own 80A breaker.

I had to add or replace something that had terminal ends slightly too small. I just got out my drill and enlarged the opening.

Yup you can enlarge the existing terminal ends with a drill bit but then have you lessened the amount of contact surface needed for higher amp draw?
In the case of the hyd pump motor it can..on cold days draw north of 70 amps on initial startup.
I’d simply remove the terminal ends and replace with proper sized ones t9mfit the new breaker lugs..
YMMV

It's more expensive for a reason. Saving money on critical electrical parts is a fool's game. Treat your RV like a boat for parts, especially electrical. I am a retired electrician. I generally buy Blue Sea but Bussman is ok. Here is Blue Sea 285 80A for $43 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

Buy the self resetting breaker or you will be ducking inside the compartment to reset it every time it pops.

Does anyone have the link that describes why this needs to be changed?

It was from Keystone, not sure where it is online. Similar to a recall.

Here is a link to the Lippert (LCI), the folks who make the Level Up systems, announcement about upgrading the CB

So is this a warranty item? We noticed our hydraulic leveling would stop then if you push the button again it would resume but it would stop again. Wash rinse repeat until we got the legs up or down depending on what we were trying to do. No issue with slide operation though.

No, unfortunately, it isn't a warranty issue, as Keystone installed the bare minimum sized breaker, but as many of us have discovered, and this is for many things on these rigs, the bare minimum does not perform like the better parts will. I installed the 80 amp breaker over five years ago, don't remember exactly when, but shortly after Lippert issued a fix for the problem, and I installed a manual reset breaker. The 80 amp breaker solves the problem.

bcrvman, are you saying the 285 breaker has inferior parts and thus is cheaper? I don't want to scrimp on parts and get something cheaper, but I also don't want to spend unnecessarily. The specs say they are virtually identical and that the 285 is a "drop in replacement" for the 185. I questioned this too since the price was less than half on the 285.
I was a journeyman electrician in south Florida many years ago, but I don't have the experience you apparently have. I have had good luck with the Bussman brand over the years though.

Hi, looking at your picture isn't the 80amp in series with the 50amp? It looks like the 50amp is ahead of the 80 amp and would trip prior to the 80 seeing an overload.
