When Your Gone From The Stick House
In a few weeks we will become Longtimers. One of the thing I remember from this area a while back was someone talked about "stuff" that you could put in your drains and toilet to keep a good seal while you are gone for a period of time. Any ideas what it was?
thanks

We put RV antifreeze in the toilet bowl, toilet closet and all drains. We also drain the water lines.

If you are not concerned about freezing but are concerned about the water evaporating in the traps and toilet bowl just add a few drops of vegetable oil. The oil will float on top and the water can not evaporate.

Zowee! I didn't know that! I used to buy some off the shelf stuff for our summer house to seal the P-traps in the winter because of the concern with evaporation in an open system. I bet it was just vegetable oil with a fancy name. If I remember it even had the consistency of oil. I think I may do that to our Monty in the winter. P-traps can sometimes evaporate quickly because of the roof vents and the venturi effect of outside wind, then you get the odor creeping in.

Not that anyone is interested, but our "shut down the house" list is several pages long, mail, insurance, bills, water, heat, more more more, police notification, etc etc etc.
If anyone does want to have a read, email me, NOT PM, email. and I will forward it to you.
It is way more than drains and toilets.
